As promised, Xavier stayed with Selene after they returned home together but prepared to leave when night fell upon the kingdom. With Selene safe inside the estate, Xavier didn’t need to worry about her.
Selene seemed to be doing better already and had come to terms with her friendship being over. It was good for him to see that she did not want to come along to question Fiona on why she did what she did.
To Xavier, the reason didn’t matter since Fiona knew the consequences. He found the pair to be foolish since they had to have known he would come after him. What made them so confident that he would just leave them alone?
Lucas was curious about what had Xavier in such deep thought. It couldn’t be that he was considering the trouble that would come if they were caught. Was he thinking of how to kill Oliver?
"Why are you staring at me so much, Lucas? Just spit it out," said Xavier. It would be hard to miss how much Lucas was staring at him.
"I don’t have anything to say. I was only curious about why you were in deep thought. It wasn’t that long ago you said you wanted to keep your hands clean so no one would disturb your slumber but now you have given me a list of people to watch. Times have changed quickly," Lucas noticed.
"I would prefer you shut up," Xavier replied.
Lucas folded his lips so he couldn’t speak to annoy Xavier.
"You look like a fool," Xavier said, annoyed just by looking at Lucas. "Just speak if you’re going to look like that."
"Like what? I am often told that I am quite handsome. Even the lady has said it and she was kind enough to buy me a gift," Lucas shared.
Xavier inspected Lucas to find this gift he spoke of.
Lucas tried to find what Xavier was searching for and after a moment passed, he realised what it was. "I don’t have it here with me. Since it is a gift from the lady, I have put it away somewhere it would be safe. She is kind."
Lucas was fond of Selene already. For one, she kept Xavier awake and she treated everyone on the estate well. She had not come in and tried to order them around in a rude manner.
"She is," Xavier agreed, still trying to think of what she could have gotten Lucas. He hoped this gift wasn’t given the same day she had given him the sword but it was likely to be that day since it was the only time Selene left home.
"Um, Lord Blackthorn?" Lucas called to the man glaring at him. "Please remember that it is not me you are after and if it will comfort you, I have seen how much the lady adores you. Only you."
"I suddenly remember why I like you but don’t push it. Look for him and then come back to me," Xavier said, looking at the men entering where they would get drunk tonight.
It was a gentleman’s pub mostly frequented by purebloods in the past but now mixed-bloods and humans with money could buy their way inside.
Again, Oliver was a fool to spend whatever money he got from speaking on Selene here. The men who gathered here would only see him as a pest and find a way to give him a high tab.
Xavier had witnessed firsthand how the pureblood owners would trick the drunkards out of their money and if humans were not careful, they would end up paying with some of their blood. The town guards would not be able to do anything if a human signed off selling their blood even when they were drunk.
