Not far away, Allison’s body tilted to one side and she suddenly fell down from the stairs of the garden.
“Alice!”
Charlotte felt her hand grabbing air as Lawrence had flung her aside and turning in Allison’s direction.
“Lawrence.”
Charlotte suddenly spoke as she bore her gaze onto his back. She was able to say this after mustering all of her courage.
“What I am telling you is the truth! I will wait for you to come back, no matter how long it will take. I will wait for you!”
Lawrence stopped momentarily in his tracks before resuming his motion towards Allison.
…
Allison had sprained her ankle.
Lawrence sent her to the hospital behind her immediately.
Luckily, her bones were fine. The doctor treated her wound and gave some reminders for the coming few days before leaving.
Lawrence asked her to stay put on the bed as he held a prescription list to get the medicines.
As he reached the door, his phone which was in his pocket rang. With some distance between them, Allison could still hear Jeffrey’s nondescript voice coming from the speaker.
“I got it.”
When Lawrence hung up the phone, Allison suddenly took away the prescription list and smiled at him warmly.
“I know that you have something to do at the company. Go head, I will call for Logan to pick me up.”
Lawrence only nodded after some dilemma, and he stroked her hair gently, “Good girl. I will come to visit you after the board meeting.”
“Alright.”
Allison watched Lawrence leave, and when he was at the door, she suddenly called out to stop him.
“Lawrence.”
“You… don’t you really want to have a talk with Miss Garcia? After all, she is still your ex, perhaps…”
Lawrence felt his pace pause as he placed his hand on the hinges of the door. He didn’t turn around as he let out a strange laugh.
“Her reasons have nothing to do with me. Alice, a woman shouldn’t be too generous and brash. If you can cry, smile and coo to me, it will make you more adorable.”
After saying that, he exited the ward and left.
Allison felt her face freeze as she subconsciously clenched her fists.
Charlotte froze.
“Ethan?”
She was instantly delighted, “How are you able to call me? Is it Evelyn that woman, or…”
Ethan didn’t answer her, and instead he said in a low voice, “Sis, weren’t you complaining about father last time? I’ll let you talk to him.”
Then, a very ancient voice replaced Ethan’s voice, and he was calling out her name with much difficulty and stubbornness.
“Lo… Lotta, my… daughter.”
Charlotte felt her heart ache as she immediately cried, “It’s me, Lotta. Dad, I’m your daughter.”
“Dad, you must hold on with Ethan and stay well. Very soon! I have found a way, and very soon, we will be able to reunite.”
There was a depressing silence at the other end of the phone.
What came next was Ethan’s voice again as he was sounding very agitated and his voice is cracking, “Sis, father and I never thought that throughout the years, you are living this kind of life!”
“I cannot stand that you are living without freedom, that men abused and abandoned you, that you are forced by damn Evelyn and gave up your beloved Lance. No!”
“Sis, you have so many chances to run away. Why didn’t you do that?”
