Chapter 50 Meeting Him
"It's okay." Rejoyla peeked at the food and saw that it was relatively plain. It was acceptable, but not to her taste. She preferred stronger flavors.
"I like the stirred shrimp with egg and fried fish."
Brady was giving her the fork. He paused and chuckled softly. She was quite frank. He thought Rejoyla would say that she wasn't picky and liked everything, or something like, "Oh, these happen to be my favorites." He didn't expect her to tell him to eat less stirred shrimp with egg and fried fish.
"Aren't you afraid of making me angry and causing trouble for yourself?" Brady was surprised. Wasn't Rejoyla afraid of offending him? After all, he was her boss and supervisor. The assistant's office existed to serve him!
Rejoyla smiled. After getting along with Brady several times, she could tell that he had a good temper. He was joking instead of embarrassing her on purpose. "I'm your aunt. Would you dare to get angry with your elder?"
This identity had its advantages!
Brady was speechless. He didn't want her to be his aunt but his girlfriend!
"By the way, Mr. Nelson, why did you go to my house?"
"I happened to be passing by your neighborhood on my way back and noticed that you hadn't been back for a long time, so I decided to stop by and check on you."
"Oh." Rejoyla didn't suspect how Brady knew where she used to live and why she would go there. Hearing this, she nodded and put down her fork. She bit her fork and looked at him. Should she ask or not? She'd better ask him, or she would be doubtful and unable to fall asleep at night.
"Mr. Nelson, why was I transferred to the assistant's office? I was originally in the finance department!" These two fields were completely unrelated.
"Well, Joy, let me ask you. Do you like working in the finance department?" Brady didn't answer Rejoyla's question but asked another one.
Rejoyla thought for a moment. How should she answer this question? She didn't really like finance. She chose this major because she was a liberal arts student and it was easier to find a job in this field. But if she said it outright, would Brady think that she didn't like her job at all and lacked professional ethics?
When Rejoyla was thinking, Brady knew the truth. He secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He had a personal motive for transferring Rejoyla to the assistant's office. If Rejoyla was particularly fond of her job in the finance department and later discovered the truth and was angry with him, what would he do? Now that Rejoyla didn't like her job, he had nothing to worry about.
He calmly used the serving fork to pick up some vegetables for Rejoyla. "You shouldn't always eat meat. It's not good for your health. As for your job, I have my own reason. I want you to do me a favor."
"What can I do to help you?"
"You saw Lydia today, right?"
"Yeah, what's wrong?"
"Alas." Brady sighed softly, his eyebrows furrowed slightly, making Rejoyla almost want to smooth them.
"You should have seen it, Joy. Lydia is the only woman in the assistant's office, and there's a reason for that."
"Oh, I know that. Because those female assistants were all attracted to you, Mr. Nelson!" Rejoyla answered. When she first joined the company, her senior used this as an example to teach her not to engage in unethical behavior in the company and to work hard. Otherwise, those fired female assistants would be a cautionary tale.
The assistant's office no longer recruited women for this reason.
Brady pursed his lips. Rejoyla was quite straightforward. No, he had to repair his image, so as not to let Rejoyla think that he was a playboy. "Actually, it's not as serious as you think. I used to have female assistants, but one of them went on maternity leave, so Lydia was a temporary replacement. Her family has some connection to mine, so I couldn't refuse her. But Lydia is insane. She thinks that just because she's my assistant, she owns me. She not only drove away the other female assistants but also harassed me. You know, as my assistant, there are some occasions when she needs to be my female companion, but Lydia tells others that she and I are a couple. It's simply a rumor. Unfortunately, because of her family connections, I can't fire her. That's why I transferred you to the assistant's office. In the future, you can be my female companion and let Lydia face reality."
The real reason was that his family wanted him to be with Lydia. As for attending the parties, well, Brady ran an entertainment company, and there were plenty of actresses in the company. Anyone of them would be happy to be his female companion, so he didn't need a female assistant to do that at all.
But Rejoyla didn't know this and her face didn't look good. "Are you using me as a shield?" Lydia didn't seem easy to get along with, and Rejoyla was worried about her own safety!
Brady tempted her. "I'll give you a raise!"
What? Rejoyla's eyes lit up. She looked at Brady with expectation.
Brady was amused by her reaction. Didn't Jacquelyn marry his Grandpa? It was impossible that she didn't give Rejoyla pocket money. How could Rejoyla be so attracted to money? But it was okay. He was just afraid that she was not greedy for money. Loving money was not a problem. The last thing he lacked was money.
