Bride To Be Not Me (Janice and Simon) novel Chapter 149

Meanwhile, Edward, who was in the kitchen, remained clueless about his parents' plan. They were already on the move to end any potential threat to his relationship.

At that moment, he was preparing the last dish.

"Your dad looks pretty serious," Janice casually remarked.

Edward glanced at her. "He's a government official."

A government official?

Janice had heard of this before, but she never knew exactly what Robert did. Still, this wasn't something she could just outright ask, so she let the topic drop.

After washing her hands, she helped carry the finished dishes to the dining table. Each dish was an absolute feast for the senses. She hadn't expected the food to look this good. The only question left was… how did it taste?

"Mr. and Ms. Moore, it's time to eat," Janice called them over.

Just as she spoke, the doorbell rang.

Barbara got up to open the door, but Janice quickly stopped her. "I'll get it. You should sit down."

When she opened the door, she was met with Matilda, who had come bearing gifts.

As soon as they saw each other, Matilda beamed with delight and pulled Janice into a warm hug. "Hello, my sister-in-law."

Unlike her usual composed demeanor at work, Matilda was much more easygoing in private.

The title 'sister-in-law' felt strange to Janice. After all, her relationship with Edward wasn't real, so this title felt undeserved.

"Come in," she said, stepping aside.

"This is for you." Matilda handed over the gift.

Janice hesitated when she saw the luxury brand. "I don't actually need anything."

"That doesn't matter. As your future sister-in-law, this is just a small token of appreciation. Take it."

Barbara chimed in, "Janice, there's no need to be polite with her. She'll just blow all her money on food and drinks anyway."

Janice had no choice but to accept the gift. "Thank you."

She made a note to herself to return the favor later.
