Chapter 17 

Helena and Amelia were forcibly dragged away. Seeing as no one was coming to save her, Sarah burst into tears out of fear. “I was wrong… Janice, I messed up! Let me go! I’ll never do it again!” 

Those people did not seem like hospital security to Janice. 

When she cast her gaze at them, the man who had just spoken immediately walked over, grabbed Sarah by the hair, and dragged her away in a disgraceful manner 

Helena and Amelia, who were dumped onto the street, were pale with fear. 

Amelia had never been so humiliated. To prevent anyone from secretly filming, she desperately tried to cover her face while convincing Helena, “Janice must have found herself some powerful backer! 

“Since she’s turned on you and dares to treat you like this, I’m afraid she might even sabotage Simon in the future. Mrs. Fitzgerald, you need to think of a way to deal with her!” 

Inside the hospital room, Edward’s appearance was rather abrupt. 

Before Janice could say anything, he said, “The Moore family has invested a lot into this hospital. If you need anything, just contact the hospital director.” 

“Oh, Ms. Smith! I am Richard Fisher, the director of the hospital. I had no idea you and your brother were here. 

“My sincerest apologies for any oversight–please, I hope you’ll forgive us.” Richard naturally knew he needed to curry favor when he saw how protective Edward was of Janice. 

Janice immediately realized the people from earlier were Edward’s men. Even though she was exhausted, she forced a smile. “Thank you, Mr. Moore. I’ll report to the company tomorrow.” 

Edward glanced at her. After a brief pause, he asked, “Are you free tomorrow evening?” 

Janice was momentarily taken aback. Jacob, who was lying on the hospital bed, answered on her behalf, “Yes, she’s free! She’s also pretty idle right now and has plenty of time!” 

To Jacob, Edward was far better than Simon, both in appearance and demeanor. 

Since Janice couldn’t backtrack, she nodded. “Yes, I’m free, Mr. Moore. If there’s anything work–related that needs preparation, just let me know.” 

She made sure to keep her posture humble. People in power often liked being treated with respect, which was why Simon’s 

relationships with other business owners were shallow. Even when collaborations were involved, they preferred discussing matters with Janice. 

Simon’s prideful nature made him insufferable. Even with his minor achievements, he acted as if he were above others, often maintaining an arrogant air in front of more senior figures, which made him very unlikable, but there was no denying that Simon had always been lucky. 

“There’s not really anything that needs preparing. Let’s have dinner tomorrow evening.” With that, Edward left. 

As the door closed behind him, Jacob immediately asked, “You’re really going to work for Prosper Stitch Group?” 

As Janice sat down, she gave a slight nod. Changing work environments could be a confusing transition at any stage of life for a person, and she was no exception. 

“That’s fantastic!” Jacob enthusiastically supported her decision. 

“Never look back. You’ve already gone above and beyond for the Fitzgerald family over the years. Moreover, the debt I owe them is mine to bear not yours. 

“You don’t need to sacrifice yourself. I’ll always remember this debt, but not to the Fitzgerald family, to Mr. Fitzgerald only.” 

Every holiday, Jacob would bring gifts to visit Hugh without fail. 

If the Fitzgerald family weren’t so terrible, the siblings wouldn’t have fallen out with them. Instead, when Helena became much older, they would have supported her. But that family was a bottomless pit, shamelessly taking advantage of others. 

“Prosper Stitch Group will provide me with housing. Once it’s ready, you can move in to recover. When you’re better, you can return to school.” 

“I’m fine, Janice. Just take care of yourself.” Although Jacob said he was fine, he had already harbored deep resentment toward the

Fitzgerald family. 

They had the audacity to seize Janice’s hard–earned money from all these years and even took her house. How despicable! 

This matter reached Matilda and Edward as they got into their car. 

“What?” Matilda exclaimed in shock. “Simon actually stooped so low as to kick Janice out?” 

If he had taken her money, snatched her house, and fired her from the company, did that not mean Simon was the very definition of a backstabbing ingrate? 

Later that evening, Janice met Harrison from Prosper Stitch Group, whom she had met before. Janice had no idea where she was being taken until she stepped out of the car and into a tall villa. 

The house had three floors decorated in her favorite cool tones. Just two hundred meters away stood the Prosper Stitch Group headquarters. It was so close she could walk to work. 

“Ms. Smith, as instructed by Mr. Moore, this house is now yours. ‘ 

“Mine?” 

Was this not just her temporary accommodation while she was still working for the company? 

“And here are the keys to two cars.” Harrison maintained a polished and courteous demeanor. “Mr. Moore wanted to express Prosper Stitch Group’s sincerity. He hopes you’ll enjoy working with us. If you need anything for your personal life, feel free to contact me anytime.” 

After he left, Janice began exploring the property. In the master bedroom, the walk–in closet was already stocked with clothes. 

What shocked her most was how the style matched her usual preferences–sharp and professional. Most pieces leaned toward the decisive, strong woman aesthetic, with each item being a luxury brand or custom–tailored. 

Everything exuded elegance. Even the hangers were shaped like the human body, a testament to the meticulousness of whoever had arranged this. 

Janice didn’t think Edward was behind this; perhaps it was Matilda who prepared this. 

The collection of clothes alone must have cost at least a million. She couldn’t accept all this, so she didn’t dare touch anything too
