Simon's alcohol tolerance was terrible.
Back in the day, Janice was always the one handling business negotiations for Refined Threads Co. She had built up her drinking stamina over the years, exacerbating her stomach problems.
As for him, he was just a freeloader who reaped the benefits. What right did he have to complain about hardship?
Simon felt like he was being torn apart.
He had never embarrassed himself like this in front of so many people before. His pride and dignity were everything to him. They were as important as his life.
And Janice knew that. That was exactly why she was doing this.
She would never feel sorry for him again.
Janice draped a white blazer over her shoulders, every movement effortlessly commanding attention. She tilted her head slightly. "Looks like Mr. Fitzgerald isn't all that interested in talking business, after all. Well, let's continue, then."
Seeing that she was about to shift the conversation toward upcoming crochet trends, Simon panicked. With bloodshot eyes, he snatched up the wine glass and downed it in one go.
The surrounding business executives watched with keen interest. So, this was the kind of drama those rich wives gossiped about. How entertaining.
He drank too fast, which caused his stomach to churn and nausea to creep up his throat. "Is this enough?"
Sunny poured him another glass. "Mr. Fitzgerald, keep going."
There was still half a bottle left. Did they expect him to finish the whole thing?
"Janice, you know I can't handle that much alcohol. You—" At this point, his pride was already in shambles. He had no choice but to play the emotional card, hoping Janice would show him mercy.
But her voice was unwavering. "Finish it, and we'll sit down and talk."
She wasn't backing down, not even an inch.
Simon clenched his teeth so hard it felt like they might crack.
And then, to everyone's shock, he suddenly grabbed the wine bottle and started chugging straight from it.
He drank too fast. Wine spilled from the corners of his mouth, staining his crisp white dress shirt a deep, blood-red.
To everyone watching, his humiliation was nothing short of a joke. Where was all that arrogance now?
The second he finished, Simon gagged. "Is this enough now?"
