Amelia's act of scolding her like she was all high and mighty annoyed Janice greatly. She didn't want to take it lying down. "That's between us. Ms. Burnett is an outsider."
"Nothing to do with this?" Helena asked. She continued, "You're the outsider. Now, everyone knows that Simon married Amy."
Helena loathed Janice. "We don't need you here. Leave right now!"
"Mom," said Simon.
Helena turned away furiously.
"Everyone, leave."
Amelia frowned and reminded him, "Simon, your wounds."
"Everyone, get out!" Simon was getting pissed. No one dared to piss him off.
While Sarah was leaving, she bumped into Janice intentionally. As Amelia left, she whispered, "Janice, tonight I'm going to accompany Simon to a business gala. My apologies, as I'll be attending as Mrs. Fitzgerald."
Mrs. Fitzgerald?
The door closed.
Simon glared at her. "Janice, you're getting braver by the minute. You're doing everything I loathe.
"Ever since you entered the room, you argued with Amelia but didn't show any concern about my wounds. How could that be?"
Janice felt as though she'd been thrown into a pool of cold water.
An accident? The only wounds Simon had were surface wounds. He looked even healthier than she did.
"Janice, you're becoming less and less of a good woman now." Simon stared at her with a disappointed glint in his eyes.
Janice found him hilarious. "I've changed? How about you? Have you ever considered how I would feel to see Amelia by your side? When did you stop giving a damn about how I felt?"
Janice dared to scold Simon. How dare she?
Simon shot back, "Have I not given you money to spend from the fortune I made? I bought a house for you, and I bought you a car. What have I owed you? Do you really have to make comparisons with a cancer patient?"
"I'm making comparisons?"
Janice felt her emotions swelling within her.
She held herself back time and time again. Why had her efforts never yielded understanding and appreciation from him? Would there be any meaning in continuing to hold herself back?
"Simon, it's getting late. We should get ready to leave now."
Amelia pushed the door open to speak to Simon. They were going to a gala later.
Janice caught Simon, who was leaving, by his arm. She asked hoarsely, "Simon, don't forget that you were the one who told me she only wanted a wedding."
This didn't include status or societal position. Simon said nothing. He yanked his hand out of her grasp and left.
Janice suspected that Simon had never loved her.
Sunny asked, "Ms. Smith, will you be attending the gala hosted by Prosper Stitch Group? Mr. Fitzgerald will be present."
Prosper Stitch Group had invited every company in the crocheting industry to the crochet gala. Everyone would be present. It would allow Prosper Stitch Group to know who they were.
Janice had wanted to go with Simon to the gala. However, he already had a partner to go with. What about her?
"You can go out first."
"Alright."
Janice sat down and stared at her picture with Simon. Although nothing had changed, she found it unfamiliar.
At 6:00 pm, Janice showed up at the entrance of the gala in a black mermaid-tail dress. She passed her invitations to the guards and was escorted into the hall.
Everyone in the hall looked toward her. Everyone in the industry knew that Janice, the CEO of Refined Threads Co., was gorgeous. However, she often flew under the radar and seldom showed up in public if not for work.
