"Izzy, there's no need for us to overthink things." Ethan said.
"Ethan, I just want to ask you one thing, do you still love Leila?" Ines paused for a moment, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath before she dared to ask.
At the sound of this question, Ethan froze. Seeing his reaction, Ines felt a surge of anxiety. She had a rough idea of what his answer would be.
The atmosphere between them was immediately tense, each second passing like torture. Ines was scared that Ethan might say something that she didn't want to hear. After a while, Ethan gently held her shoulders, looked deeply into her eyes and said, "Izzy, you don't need to compare yourself to her. In my heart, you're the most important person in my future. No one can replace you. Leila is just my past. You can consider her a part of my previous life. The feelings I had for her, I can't deny them. And I shouldn't, because they were real."
Ines’s body trembled slightly, "Do you really still love Leila?"
"No matter how deeply I loved before, that's all in the past. Now, all I want to do is to cherish you, Izzy, do you understand?" Ethan said.
Ines gave a bitter smile, she understood, of course.
Ethan's honesty was admirable, he didn't want to lie to her. If it were some smooth-talker, they might have already said that the past was just youthful recklessness, not true love.
But Ethan wasn't like that, he was always honest and direct, never mincing words.
Ines didn't know if every woman would care so much, but her mind was very delicate at the moment. She kept thinking about how great it would be if Ethan had only ever loved her from the beginning.
"Izzy, the past is part of my life experience, I can't completely deny it. If it weren't for those experiences, I wouldn't be who I am now. You'd see a completely different me." Ethan gently touched Ines's face and whispered.
"I know." Ines's voice was so weak.
"Izzy." Ethan didn't say anything else. He just held Ines close.
"Ethan, I think I'm becoming greedy. I know it's wrong, but I still want to monopolize your heart. Am I bad?" Ines stared at Ethan, her eyes filled with a touch of confusion and loss.
Ethan was pained to see her like this, but he didn't know how to explain everything or how to make her happy, "No, Izzy, you're not bad at all. Actually, I feel the same way. Whenever I see you caring about Aaron, I feel bitter. I want to monopolize everything that belongs to you. It's normal, you don't have to blame yourself."
Hearing Ethan say this, Ines felt a bit better. Recently, she had actually accepted Leila's existence, but Silvia's words had upset her.
Ines looked at Ethan and recounted what Silvia had said to her. Ethan listened with a furrowed brow.
"Ethan, earlier when you touched my face, I thought about what Silvia had said to me, and I pushed your hand away." Ines said.
