In the past, Ethan would've found Silvia cute. But now, he felt a nameless irritation at her antics. His voice rose, becoming graver, "Silvia."
At his cold address, a tidal wave of hurt washed over Silvia.
"Don't try to dodge the issue. You're talking nonsense to a pregnant woman. You really think you're not in the wrong?" Ethan said.
Nonsense? It was the first time she'd voiced her hidden thoughts to anyone. They might not have been directed at him, but they were genuine. How could they be nonsense?
"Ethan, I don't know what Ines told you, but that's just what I really think." Silvia wasn't ready to apologize just yet.
Ethan squinted at Silvia, a touch of oppression in his gaze, "Wasn't it you who told her you wanted to snatch me away from her? Didn't you tell her about me and your sister?" Silvia felt a chill, and after a pause, she said, "Yes, I did tell her about you and my sister. I did it on purpose. I can't stand that she's hogging all the good fortune. My sister paid the price of her life for you, and not long after, you married someone else, giving all your love to her. Are you being fair to my sister?"
By the end, Silvia was almost growling. Ethan was taken aback, but disappointment quickly filled his eyes, "Silvia, do you even understand what marriage is? You told Izzy about my past with your sister. What was your aim? Don't you know that saying such things would directly affect her emotions and the child she's carrying? If anything happens to her, can you take responsibility?"
Ethan initially wanted to have a serious conversation with Silvia, but her words were only enraging him.
"Besides, this is my business. Ines didn't know anything about my past before we got married. This has nothing to do with her, so don't push all the blame onto her." Compared to Silvia's agitation, Ethan was much calmer.
If there was to be retribution, let it fall on him. It had nothing to do with his wife. He should count himself lucky. Even if Ines hadn't said anything, he knew she had a soft spot for Aaron. The reason they hadn't developed into a couple over the years was partially due to Aaron's indecisiveness, but probably also because of Ines. Knowing about her parents' past, she couldn't possibly accept a man who was still hung up on another woman. As long as she knew, she would avoid it, cutting off any inappropriate thoughts.
When she decided to marry him, she probably hadn't thought it through.
If she knew about his past, she might not have chosen to step into this complicated love triangle. He didn't deny his feelings for Leila last night. He saw the fleeting disappointment in her eyes, but he couldn't deny it. Telling her that his past with another woman wasn't important was unfair to the deceased and deceptive to the living.
"Ethan." Silvia's voice weakened. The man before her had changed to the point of being unrecognizable.
She'd seen him drown his sorrows in alcohol for her sister, immerse himself in work, but now all he talked about was Ines. When did Ines become so important to him?
They said when a man became cold and heartless, he was scarier than a woman. This was proven true in his case.
"Not only that, but also because I don't have any romantic feelings for you." Ethan didn't care about Silvia's pale face and spoke his true feelings.
He was never one to be sentimental. If he truly had feelings for Silvia, he wouldn't hide them.
At his words, Silvia's whole body stiffened. She stared at Ethan, seemingly unable to move on from his statement for a long while.
"So don't go to Ines and say those things anymore. That will only make me lose the last bit of affection I have for you." Ethan added.
Silvia quickly raised her head, looking at Ethan in disbelief, "You mean, if I talk to Ines again, you'll cut ties with me?"
"Yes." Ethan said emotionlessly.
"Ethan, you just storm in here accusing me, not even giving me a chance to explain myself. Only hearing Ines' side of the story, you think this is fair?" Silvia was hurting inside, as if someone had taken a knife and ruthlessly slashed her, the pain was unbearable. "I know my wife, better than anyone else. She's not one to make a fuss over nothing or make up stuff to badmouth others, I don't need your explanation. Her words are good enough for me." Ethan stated firmly. Sure, Ines could be a bit sarcastic at times, but that was only when something was bugging her. She wouldn’t just toss around words carelessly.
