"Ethan, why do you trust her so much? Why won't you ever listen to me?" Silvia's lips trembled slightly, obviously hurt by Ethan's attitude.
"There's no need. I know you learned some psychology stuff abroad, but don't use that to mislead me. I have my own eyes and judgment. I don't need you messing with my head." Ethan said.
"Ethan, you're being too hasty with your decision." Silvia took a deep breath, biting back her dissatisfaction. Ethan's face was cold and indifferent, completely ignoring what Silvia was saying, "I'm telling you now. Even if I owe your sister and I want to take care of you, if you hurt Izzy, I won't go easy on you because of our past. I won't let Izzy suffer because of you. I'll do whatever it takes, just like I would with anyone who hurts Izzy."
The implication was clear, she wasn't special. She was just an average person.
Silvia felt her head buzzing, her lips tightly pressed together, "Ethan, is this how you repay my sister? I'm her only family left."
Ethan said, "Don't use your sister to guilt trip me, she's gone. I owe your sister, not you. Don't mix those up. The Meyer family and I have never owed you anything. I've always treated you like a sister. I have no guilt. Don't use my guilt to hurt Izzy, you don't have that right."
He'd already failed one woman, he wouldn't fail another. Especially not his wife, the mother of his child and the woman he loved.
Even if it ended up hurting Silvia, he'd embrace it.
He'd thought this through before he found Silvia. Silvia was silent. Ethan looked at her intensely, "I've said what I needed to say. Now it's up to you. If you genuinely care for both of us, I'll treat you as I used to. If you can't, don't contact me anymore or my family. My wife is there and seeing you will upset her. I don't want my past to cause her any more discomfort."
Ines had just recovered from the loss of her father and was now pregnant. She had to work at the Galeana Group every day and be troubled by his past at home.
Seeing her struggle made his heart ache.
The past was already set in stone, he couldn't change it. All he could do was try to prevent more bad things from happening.
Ethan finished his speech, put a check on the table. He left, leaving Silvia alone.
His last words echoed in her ears, "My wife will be uncomfortable seeing you."
Just worrying that Ines might feel uneasy, he cut off all her ties with the Meyer family, even forbidding her from visiting.
"Mr. Meyer, did something happen? Why did you suddenly come to see her?" Lucas asked. He'd been with Ethan for years and could always tell when something was off. He also knew what questions to ask and what not to.
For example, now that Ethan had brought it up, he naturally followed suit.
"Silvia has feelings for me." Ethan rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on. He knew he was harsh today, but if he wasn't, Silvia might not take it seriously. He didn't want to see more conflicts with Ines in the future.
Hopefully, from now on, she could calm down. Otherwise, if he was forced to choose, he'd definitely choose Ines.
Lucas furrowed his brows slightly, then said, "That's actually pretty normal."
"How so?" Ethan stopped rubbing his temples and opened his eyes to look at Lucas. "Your family background alone attracts a lot of women, let alone the special care you've given Silvia. She lost her sister and has no family left, it's only natural that she'd develop feelings for someone who cares for her. It's unexpected, but it makes sense." Lucas explained.
Ethan laughed, "If you hadn't been by my side for so many years, I'd think you're a spy sent by her. Why do you always defend her? Is it wrong for me to take care of her? I don't think I've given her any hints or done anything inappropriate. I let you do a lot of things for her, I didn't spend much time alone with her."
