Lucas chuckled lightly, "Mr. Meyer, I'm just an observer, maybe that's part of the reason. But mainly it's because you're one hell of a good-looking guy. If it were me, no one would bat an eye, they'd just see me as a helpful buddy. But you, you're different, every move you make leaves a different impression on people."
Ethan sighed softly, "So what you're saying is, I should keep my distance from all women."
Lucas laughed, "I didn't exactly say that. No need to throw the baby out with the bathwater just because of one mistake. But caution never hurts, especially now that you're hitched."
If something careless happened, that was a whole different ball game.
Of course, these were words Lucas didn't dare to say directly to Ethan. He now knew Ethan's character well, anyone who involved Ines, Ethan wouldn't hesitate to hit back. There was no room for negotiation.
So even Silvia had a special place. But when it came to Ines, retreat was the only option.
"Alright then, all future social events involving women are on you." Ethan, after some thought, said seriously to Lucas.
"No can do, Mr. Meyer. I'm a married man myself now, my wife cares about these things too. She always worried that I'm messing around outside. I wouldn't dare to get too close with women." Lucas responded.
"That's because she still doesn't trust you completely, Izzy wouldn't do that." Ethan said, glancing at Lucas.
"Right. I, as a husband, definitely need to step up." Lucas said awkwardly, feeling Ethan had some major changes post-marriage. Like developing narcissism, which was something he wouldn't have done before.
But Lucas had to admit. Despite Ethan's lack of dating experience, his emotional intelligence was high. The harmony between him and Ines always gave a feeling as if it was meant to be.
In the world of high society, they were one of the few model couples.
"Where to now, Mr. Meyer?" asked Lucas.
Checking the time, it seemed lunchtime was upon them, Ethan wondered if Ines had eaten, "Let's stop by the Galeana Group."
At the Galeana Group
Silas received a call early in the morning saying two of their projects were fine, it was a mistake on their staff's end, and asked for their understanding.
Solving problems was always good. Ines spent the whole morning busy adjusting the work plan according to the original plan.
He then opened the lunch box, but found the food a bit cold, he asked, "Where's the microwave?"
"I think there's one in the corridor on the second floor. It's for the employees. You can stay here, I'll have Silas help me heat it up." She felt Ethan going out to heat up her lunch didn't quite match his image.
"No need to bother Silas, I'll go. You wait here." Ethan said.
Before Ines could say anything, Ethan had already disappeared. She leaned comfortably against the couch, a slight smile tugged at the corner of her lips. She recalled a comic she read once, about a person hugging a cactus full of thorns, ending up with wounds all over. But he took away all the thorns, so when the next person hugged the same cactus, they didn't get hurt.
Comparing Ethan to a thorny cactus might not be entirely accurate, but it was undeniable that having lost once, he knew more about cherishing and maintaining a marriage than others. As the next person, she really didn't need to care about the one who had the thorny cactus before. It would only make her seem narrow-minded, even she herself wouldn't respect her.
Ethan returned soon with the steaming hot food, served it in front of her, "Eat up, you can't skip meals just because you're busy."
Ines nodded, "Got it. Have you had lunch?"
Ethan, with a smile, tousled Ines's hair, "I'm used to your surveillance now. I get hungry when it's mealtime, I've already eaten. You just enjoy your meal, no need to worry about me." Ines smiled and started eating, occasionally glancing at Ethan.
