Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 333

At the police station, Ines and Ethan were outside chatting with Alan. The station arranged for Emma to meet with Shirley in the interrogation room. Shirley was handcuffed between the table and the wall. After Eda pushed Emma in, she left with the officers.

Emma was staring blankly at the person in front of her. Shirley wasn't from a rich family and had been living tough for the past few decades. However, she had been taking care of herself in recent years. Although she couldn't compare with the aristocrats, she was still relatively young. Makeup could hide some of the wrinkles and vicissitudes on her face.

But to her surprise, in just a few months, she looked so haggard. Her eyes were deeply sunken, and the wrinkles on her face were clearly visible. Now she was wearing a prisoner's uniform, completely different from her previous image.

She took so much money, why did she end up like this?

Despite her resentment towards this woman, after all, she was her mother. Seeing her like this, Emma felt heartbroken.

Her eyes became red, and she called out softly, "Mom."

Shirley also began to cry, trying to grab Emma's hand, but she couldn't move because she was handcuffed. All she could say was, "Emma, you must help me. I can't stand being here for another day. What happened yesterday was a last resort. Jasmine is my granddaughter, and I would never hurt her. I just wanted you to give me some money."

"Money? I can barely make ends meet now, you took so much money? How did you burn through it in just a few months?" Emma asked.

"Carlos is a jerk. He took all my money and jewelry, and my bank cards are frozen. I can't withdraw any money." As she thought of Carlos, Shirley clenched her teeth. If it weren't for him, she wouldn't have been so poor so quickly.

If she still had money, she would not return to A City, but find a place to live a leisurely life, not falling into the current predicament. That man ruined her first half of life and even the second half. Therefore, she decided to make him suffer too. Once arrested, she immediately revealed Carlos's whereabouts.

"You knew what kind of person he was, why did you still cooperate with him?" Emma asked.

"Without his help, I couldn't leave A City alone." Shirley originally planned to cut ties with Carlos after leaving, but Carlos stuck around like a bad penny.

"Mom, if you knew the outcome today, why did you do those things in the first place? If you hadn't hurt dad, you wouldn't have ended up like this." Emma said.

"You underestimate your dad. Do you think he would let me go easily if he knew what I had done? If I didn't strike first, he would strike me sooner or later. I just accidentally did those things. I only planned to steal the will, but he found out. He chased me out, and I didn't mean to push him down the stairs." Shirley said.
