Hearing these words, Emma stopped crying, lifting her head to look at Shirley with a sarcastic smirk, "Mother, are you still not getting it? It's not just about you intentionally hurting my sister years ago, even dad's death won't keep you out of jail."
"You're talking nonsense. I saw the news on TV. There's no clear evidence about the car accident years ago. You're the key witness. Even for your dad's case, you're the main witness. As long as you change your testimony, there's still a chance for me to get out." Shirley's emotions flared up at the thought of staying here.
"Mom, you're making it sound too easy. It's one thing that they haven't caught you yet, but once they do, do you think my sister and her husband will just let you walk? There's nothing I can do to help you." Emma said.
"You're always bringing up your sister, I think you're giving them too much weight. You're bought by them, so you're not even caring about your own mother anymore. You heartless daughter, aren't you afraid of God's punishment?" Shirley growled under her breath.
"You killed my dad, would I still be a dutiful daughter if I helped you?" Emma retorted.
"Your dad, I've told you many times, he didn't love you. You shouldn't be fooled by his kindness to you before he died. Everything he did was for Ines. How could you understand, your dad was too cunning." Shirley said.
"Mom, are you still trying to manipulate my thoughts at this point? If dad didn't love me, why did he always bring me gifts when he came back from business trips? Why was he always by my side when I was crippled, looking for doctors to save me? Why did he leave me so many valuable things after he died?" Emma smirked, "What about you, you always say you're considering for me, but what have you done for me? You were the culprit of the car accident years ago. You made me hate my sister. You took away my property, even planned to sell the whole Galeana Group. You didn't leave me anything, and you even planned to kidnap Jasmine to threaten me. Think about it, which of these things you did was for my sake?"
"You're still young, you can support yourself. You have so many properties and shops, and you're married to the Ramos family. Even if the parents of the Ramos family don't like you, they won't let you starve. What are you worrying about, I'm not educated and I'm not young anymore. If I don't have money, how do you expect me to live." Shirley said.
Emma shook her head, "Listen to yourself. You only considered yourself, and you didn't consider me at all. Do you know how much money it takes to raise a child? And I'm about to divorce Aiden, I have nothing of the Ramos family's property."
"Who can you blame? It's your own foolish behavior. Why didn't you ask for anything from the Ramos family when you divorced? Jasmine is the child of the Ramos family, and they should support her. Why did you come out alone with the child? You should at least split some of the Ramos family's property." Shirley said in an unreasonable manner.
"No wonder you were jealous of dad's good life and his happy marriage, all you wanted was money. What right do you have to fight for the ownership of the Galeana Group, you didn't put any effort or hard work into it." Emma said.
"I gave birth to a child for Hunter!" Shirley said.
"So in your eyes, I'm just a tool for you to live a rich life." Emma said.
Emma took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, "I've seen the notebook dad left for my sister, he wrote that he gave you some money before he took me back, I want to know where all that money went? Why didn't our lives improve during those years, why was I having such a hard time at school?"
"Ha-ha." Shirley laughed crazily, "Your dad thought he had schemed against me, but I was the winner. I made his wife die in resentment, made his favorite daughter leave him and see him as an enemy. I even made him carry the bad name of betraying his wife."
Emma stared at her, and all she heard was her laughing. "I know him best. I know if he knew he had a daughter living so miserably in this world, he wouldn't be able to stand it. Sure enough, he did give me some money when he hadn't seen you."
Shirley said, “He was indifferent to you at first, but after seeing you, he couldn't bear it, so he took you back. Now you ask me about the money he gave, do you think I would give you that money to achieve my goal? Would I let you use that money to change your life? You being laughed at by classmates was even arranged by me on purpose. I used money to bribe them, so they would hurt you and I would have a reason to let him come see you. You didn't disappoint me. You've always had a strong sense of self-esteem since you were little, just like Hunter. You were totally unable to stand the ridicule of classmates, even being able to fight back after being hurt. You cooperated with me perfectly without knowing it.”
Emma's eyes almost popped out of her head as she stared at Shirley, seemingly shell-shocked.
"You don't have to give me that look, I was just around the corner watching. It hurt me to see them hitting you, but it was the only way. If a little sacrifice like this gets us out of our old life, then what's a few bruises? You should be thanking me. If it weren't for what I did back then, you'd probably still be stuck in that small town, with none of this life you have now." Shirley said.
