Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 335

Emma really couldn't wrap her head around the fact that there were moms who could be so scheming towards their own daughter. "Are you upset? Are you as upset as me? How could you help Ines and Ethan against me? Do you think I'm stupid? The cops were hiding there, you must've tipped them off that I was gonna call you for money. Good job." Shirley's eyes sparkled with malice, and she looked like she was spiraling out of control.

Emma regretted coming here. Looking back at her previous thoughts, she felt ridiculous. She had held onto a sliver of hope, thinking that Shirley might show regret or remorse. She did show some signs of reflection at first, but it was all an act. She was still as stubborn as ever.

However, Emma felt that the trip wasn't a total waste. She finally understood everything that had happened in the past and saw Shirley's true nature. From that moment on, Emma didn't feel guilty anymore. Her mother didn't deserve her tears.

Emma wiped away her tears, gazed at Shirley for a few seconds and said, "Mom."

"I don't want you to call me that. I don't have a daughter like you." Shirley said.

"This will be the last time I call you that." Emma said quietly.

After leaving this place, this woman would have nothing to do with her. Emma had planned to persuade her, hoping that she would behave well in prison and get out early. She would try to visit her as much as possible. But now, Emma felt that there was no need to say these things. This woman was beyond redemption.

Shirley burst into laughter, "I don’t give a damn."

"Let's cut ties as mother and daughter." After Emma finished speaking, she didn't hesitate and pushed her wheelchair away.

Shirley was stunned, then started cursing, "Emma, you traitor! You will pay for siding with Ines. She's just using you. You'll be doomed for treating your mother this way. You ungrateful daughter, I won't let you off even if I die."

...

Even after she left, Emma could still hear Shirley's voice. She lifted her hand to cover her ears, trying to ignore those harsh words. Eda, who was picking her up, also heard them. But she just shook her head, didn't say a word, and pushed Emma to find Ethan and Ines.

The cop waiting outside also stared at Emma, seemingly sympathizing with her for having such a mother.

Ines could tell that something was off with Emma, so she turned to Eda. Eda moved her lips, seemingly not knowing how to start. But at that moment, Emma hugged Ines. Since she was sitting in a wheelchair, she could only hug Ines’s legs.

Ines could feel the wetness on her legs and the slight trembling of Emma's shoulders. She gently stroked Emma's hair and put her hand on her shoulder, "Emma, what's wrong?"

Emma couldn't bring herself to talk about her mother. She just choked out, "Izzy, you guys do whatever you want, I have no objections."

Ines didn't push, and just comforted her, "It's okay, let’s go home now. Jasmine woke up and is fussy. The nanny probably can't handle her."

Emma straightened up, sniffled, "Okay."

Ethan and Alan's matter wasn't over ye; Silas had just finished dealing with his stuff and came to pick them up.

Shirley really was cunning, exploiting her father's weakness. Ines had nothing to say to Shirley, a woman who could be so insane for her own desires.

Even as a bystander, Ines clenched her teeth watching. How shameless must one be to say such things and how cruel must one be to do such things, even instigating others to hit her own daughter.

No wonder Emma didn't know how to talk to her, this was simply speechless.

Ines truly felt that the fact Emma didn't turn out like Shirley was all thanks to their father; at least there was some goodness in the genetic inheritance. After watching, Ines felt a bit heavy. Before she could leave, Ethan came to find her. He also briefly watched the video. He told her, "We've settled it. Given Shirley's situation, she can be sentenced to life imprisonment or death. I'll have the lawyer fight for life imprisonment. She'll spend the rest of her life in prison, let her atone for her sins there."

"If a person like her suddenly dies, it would be too good for her. She should spend the rest of her life in a dark prison." Ines said quietly.

"Okay, we shouldn't be angry for such a person, it's not worth it." Ethan helped Ines stand up.

Ines nodded, suddenly remembered someone else, "What about Carlos?"

"Carlos wasn't just Shirley's partner in crime. He had other skeletons in his closet as well. His end was no different from Shirley's. Emma should finally get some peace now." Ethan said.

Ines nodded, her tone a tad sour, "Let's go. This stuff is just too crazy."
