Seeing that Silvia didn't argue or deny, Ethan asked again, "Anything else you want to explain? Did I misunderstand you?"
Silvia was at a loss for words because everything Ethan said was true. She was indeed too self-confident, which led to this serious mistake. He easily saw through her carefully laid plans, but that just proved he was a smart guy worth her affections, not some idiot.
But her failure was regrettable.
"Ethan, I really didn't mean to." Silvia said.
"You didn't mean to? You've gone this far and you're saying you didn't mean to? Silvia, what the hell are you trying to do?" Ethan was utterly annoyed.
The angrier Ethan got, the clearer Silvia saw his love for Ines. She clenched her fists, laughed lightly and said, "What do I want to do? I'm not willing to accept your marriage. I've known you for so many years. Why did you never notice me, but married a woman you've only met once?"
"Who I marry is my business, no need to seek your opinion." Ethan coldly looked at Silvia. Seeing her face resembling Leila's, he felt no pity. He didn't know when he had become so cold.
"Ethan." Silvia said softly, suppressing her anger. No one knew how she felt every time she called his name. It felt like a hand was squeezing her heart, making it hard for her to breathe.
Oh, how she wished to be Ines, the woman by his side. But she only allowed herself to imagine that scenario when it was late at night and all was quiet.
"I told you last time that was your last chance, but you didn't treasure it." Ethan said.
"Ethan, I did this when I just returned back. I was really emotional then, and I couldn't accept your sudden marriage, acting impulsively. Why don't you believe that I can let go of my feelings for you? I'll set myself free. I'm learning to do that. Why can't you give me another chance, instead of pushing me!" Silvia squatted down, clutching her head, crying as she spoke.
Ethan found it utterly ridiculous, he was pushing her? She was the one pushing him, challenging his limits again and again. He said, "I'm pushing you? You're the one pushing me! You say I don't give you a chance, but you could've stopped this. You talk about remorse, but do nothing. How can I trust you again? I won't give you another chance to hurt my wife and child. I didn't know you had such a talent for lying. Leila never taught you this."
"You have no right to mention my sister, she died because of you. If it wasn't for you, I would still have someone who loved me deeply, instead of living alone in this world. It's all your fault. You caused all of this." Silvia stared at Ethan with tears in her eyes, looking horrifying.
He hurt her sister, and her. This man was poison, but she couldn't extricate herself. If it wasn't for him, none of this would've happened. She would still be carefree under her sister's care.
Ethan ignored Silvia, left the office directly after speaking. Silvia sat on the floor, staring at Ethan's retreating figure until he disappeared, then she suddenly let out a shrill laugh, laughing until tears streamed down her face.
The nurses outside felt something was wrong, rushed over, but seeing Silvia's crazed state, they didn't dare approach. They watched for a bit, then eventually retreated.
Ethan drove to the Galeana Group after leaving the hospital. It was past work hours, but Ines was still waiting for him in the office. Seeing her, Ethan ignored Silas, who was also in the office, and went straight to hug her.
Silas was taken aback for a moment, seeing Ethan's mood was off, he glanced at them and left.
Ines could feel Ethan's mood, her eyes full of worry. She held his hand lightly and asked, "Ethan, what happened?"
Ethan didn't answer, Ines didn't press him either. She just gently patted his back of the hand, as if telling him, no matter what happened, she was always by his side.
Ines' legs were feeling kinda numb, but Ethan didn't let go, and she didn't make a peep, just let herself chill in his arms. After a while, Ethan finally said, "Izzy, this time it's all Silvia's doing. I just went and handled it, and I won't be bothered with her anymore. I'm sorry, once again you were put in an awkward spot because of her. I still can't really do anything about her, but if she dares to mess with us again, I won't let her off so easily."
