"Did you see what they look like?" Ethan knitted his brows, though he had a hunch, he still couldn't quite figure out why the person he suspected would come to the hospital. Was it a coincidence or just as he thought?
"Nope, the person was gone by the time I stepped out. All I saw was a retreating figure." Joy shook her head, her face still pale. She felt a pang of regret; she was so close to finding out who had schemed against her all those years ago and ruined her life.
Having caught on to what they were talking about, Ines pursed her lips and said to Joy, "Don't sweat it, all this is in the past. You've paid your dues, there's nothing to worry about anymore."
"Don't worry, Joy, I've got your back." Jeffery tightened his hold on Joy, his gaze somewhat somber.
"Okay." Joy didn't want everyone to worry and managed to squeeze out a slight smile.
"You guys can stay at our new place for a while. I'll have someone keep an eye on your mom's place. Nothing's gonna happen. Don't worry." Ethan assured them.
"Thanks, Ethan." Jeffery thanked him with a smile, his impression of Ethan improving a bit.
The good mood among the three was dampened by this minor incident. As they stepped into the elevator, they were surprised to see Silvia, who had been in a coma, standing inside. She was wearing the hospital's loose uniform, her long hair flowing down and her face pale as a sheet. She looked lifeless, not at all like a normal person. If it wasn't broad daylight, they would have been scared by her appearance.
Ines was the first to spot Silvia and raised her eyebrows in surprise. Just yesterday her mother-in-law had said Silvia was still in a coma, yet she was awake just one day later. Not knowing what to say, Ines just stared at Silvia. Ethan too glanced at Silvia, his gaze shifting slightly to an advertisement on the wall across them.
Of course, Joy was unaware of the history between the three. She recognized Silvia as Leila's younger sister, whom she was on good terms with back in the day, and asked in surprise, "Silvia, what are you doing here?"
Silvia just stared at Joy blankly, not uttering a word. Instead, she turned her gaze to Ethan, who had his arm around Ines' waist, obviously trying to shield Ines from the crowded elevator.
Silvia found the sight unbearable. Her fists clenched tightly in her hospital gown, it took all her strength not to rush over and separate them. She moved her lips but no sound came out.
Although she had been in a coma these past few days, she could hear everything people around her were saying. She knew Ethan had never come to see her once. His heart was truly cold. She had driven herself to this point and he was still indifferent. Why didn't he just let her die? Instead, she had to wake up, and the first thing she saw was them. She was filled with hatred.
At this point, Joy also realized something was off and stopped talking to Silvia.
Silvia got off the elevator at the fourth floor, while the rest only left at the first floor. As soon as they stepped out, Ethan received a call from Erica and had to step aside to answer. Erica's voice sounded anxious, "Ethan, the nurse just called me. She stepped out for a bit and Silvia disappeared just like that."
Ethan simply responded with a nonchalant "Hmm."
Erica sighed helplessly, "Ethan, are you still at the hospital?"
