Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 365

Seeing Ines unwilling to say more, Jeffery didn't press further, just shook his head and sighed, "My little cousin, who used to be all about keeping her distance from men and not dating, is gone."

"Hey, you’re really blowing this out of proportion." Ines pouted slightly, unhappy with Jeffery's words.

"Don't think I don't know. There were quite a few guys chasing you, but you never showed any interest. I thought you were gonna end up an old maid, not getting married until after 30. But here you are, married at 27. Didn't see that coming." Jeffery said.

"27 isn't young, okay. It's not surprising that I got married at this age." Ines said.

Hearing this, Joy couldn't help but chime in, "I didn't marry your cousin until I was 30."

"That's different, you two were dating for a few years. If you weren't dating, you'd be in the same boat as me." Ines said.

Joy laughed, "I'm the normal one here. I didn't have the guts to marry a man I'd only met once."

Ethan, just off the phone, walked over and heard their conversation, asking with amusement, "So, Izzy had a lot of suitors?"

Before Jeffery could answer, Ines laughed, "Of course. Did you think you were the only one with good taste? Everyone's eyes are sharp."

At this, they all burst into laughter. After leaving the hospital, Jeffery and Joy went in a different direction. Before leaving, Jeffery pulled Ethan aside, seriously saying, "Ethan, I may just be a humble architect, and I can't compare to someone of your status. But Izzy is my only cousin. If she ever gets hurt, I'll do whatever it takes to stand up for her."

Ethan just smiled, lightly thumping his chest, and said with a laugh, "Don't worry about it. I won't give you the chance. You can rest easy."

"I hope so." Jeffery smiled back.

Ines didn't need to ask to know what Jeffery would say to Ethan, so she remained silent. Instead, she turned her attention to Ethan, "Ethan, we're at the hospital. Aren't you going to check on Silvia? She doesn't look so good."

"Izzy, I've told you, there's nothing between Silvia and me anymore. I won't see her alone. You can relax." Ethan said.

"It's not that I don't trust you. I've been feeling a bit uneasy lately, like something's about to happen." Ines couldn't help but rub her chest. She'd been feeling like this for days.

Ethan frowned, "Is it severe? Do you need to see a doctor?"

"No need for that. Just a little discomfort, probably related to my emotions." Ines said.

Silvia had been standing by the window in the hallway, watching the two people at the hospital entrance. Although she couldn't hear what they were saying, she could clearly see the smile on Ines' face and the tenderness on Ethan's. Just then, a deep male voice sounded from behind her, "What's the matter? Do you still think there's a chance between you and him?"

Silvia gave a mocking laugh and turned to face the man, "Mind your own business. Weren't you always afraid of people finding out about our relationship? Now you show up here and you're not afraid? Don't you care about your reputation?"

"You're like this now. Of course I have to come check on you. I wouldn't be able to rest easy otherwise." The middle-aged man said with a gentle smile, as if he genuinely cared about her.

"Do you really think anyone would believe that?" Silvia shook her head, didn't say a word, and walked past the man into her own room.

The man was about to follow, but his phone rang. He heard the voice on the other end say, "Sir, the nurse just informed Erica. That woman should be here soon. We should leave quickly before she arrives."

The man glanced at Silvia's retreating figure and headed for the stairs.

When Silvia returned to her room, the nurse was anxiously pacing by the door. Seeing her, the nurse brightened, "Miss, you're not fully recovered yet. You shouldn't be running around as soon as you wake up. I was worried about you."

Silvia didn't even bother to lift an eyelid, let alone respond. She just kicked off her shoes, drew her knees up to her chest on the bed, and buried her head deep between her legs. Her long hair cascading down, it was as if she was shutting herself off in her own little world, not wanting to interact with anyone at all. Seeing her like this, the carer couldn't help but say again, "Miss, won't you talk to me? I'm really worried about you. You're just in your early twenties, still young, in the prime of your life. There's no hurdle you can't get over. Look on the bright side, things will always get better."
