Silvia didn't hide it from the nurse, not that she could. The marks on her wrists were too horrifying to ignore, clear signs of her suicide attempt.
"I have a daughter your age." The nurse said, "Seeing you like this, it's breaking my heart. You think you're freeing yourself, but what about the people who care about you? How do you think they feel? Don't make them worry anymore, okay? I've been talking to you a lot these past few days, even when you were unconscious. I don't know if you heard me, but now that you're awake, let the past be the past. Forget what needs to be forgotten, and start over."
At that, Silvia managed a bitter smile, but didn't respond. Start over? Easier said than done. She'd lost so much for Ethan, she couldn't just let it go. Even if she couldn't have Ethan's heart, she would not let him be with Ines so easily. No way.
The nurse, seeing Silvia's silence, didn't press further. She just stayed with her, fearing that she might try to escape again, and waited for Erica to come.
Erica arrived about half an hour later. She was already on her way back to the Meyer Mansion when the nurse called, forcing her to turn back. This had caused some delay.
"Ma'am, I'm glad you're here." The nurse said, "Miss Silvia woke up this morning, but she's been down in the dumps. She's not talking to me."
Erica nodded, then asked the nurse to fetch the doctor for another check on Silvia.
After the nurse left, Erica sat by the bed. She sighed, patted Silvia's shoulder, and asked, "Silvia, is there any part of you that's uncomfortable?"
Silvia seemed better now. She looked up at Erica and said softly, "No, I'm feeling much better."
Erica smiled, "That's good. There's nothing you can't get through."
Just then, Silvia's doctor came in with a few others, all carrying equipment. Seeing Erica, he greeted cheerfully, "Ms. Erica, you're here."
"Thank you, Dr. Taylor. Could you please give Silvia another thorough check-up to make sure there's nothing else wrong?" Erica asked.
"Sure, we'll take care of it." Dr. Taylor nodded at his team. They got to work, and after a while, he told Erica, "You can rest assured, Ms. Erica. Miss Silvia is just a bit weak from blood loss. Other than that, there's nothing wrong. She's recovering well. With proper care, she'll be on the mend soon."
Once the doctors left, Erica called Phillip. He said he would come over soon and bring some nourishing food for Silvia.
"Silvia, you haven't eaten for days. Are you hungry?" Erica asked.
Silvia shook her head, "My mouth tastes bitter. I don't feel like eating."
"You'll feel like that after sleeping so long. Later Phillip will bring you some good food." Erica said.
"I really caused you guys a lot of trouble." Silvia felt guilty.
"I told the driver to wait downstairs. It's not good to crowd the room. Is that girl awake yet?" Phillip asked.
Erica glanced into the room and said, "Not sure. She hasn't moved since she lay down. She's been sleeping since I called you. It's been a few hours."
"Well, wake her up then. It's not like she hasn't slept enough after being unconscious for so long. It's not healthy to keep sleeping once you're awake." Phillip said.
Erica nodded, "I'll wake her up now. It's a good time for her to eat something."
When they entered the room, Silvia was just sitting up in bed. Erica laughed, "Did we wake you up with our talking?"
Silvia shook her head, smiling. "No, I've been awake all along. I just felt weak and wanted to rest in bed."
"Silvia, you're feeling weak because you've been sleeping too much. To recover, you need to get your sleep schedule back on track. But enough about that, go freshen up. I brought you some food." Phillip said.
Silvia nodded and went into the bathroom.
Phillip brought some chicken soup, and watching Silvia sip it bit by bit, he couldn't help but get lost in thought. Back in the day when she first came to the Meyer family, she was like this too, eating everything in tiny bites, as if afraid to disturb anyone. Before he knew it, several years had already passed.
