Ines had made it through another few days, seemed like a whole 23 days now. During this time, there had been a continuous stream of visitors to the Meyer family house, and gifts were piling up like a mountain.
Ines had already gotten a taste of Ethan's influence. Whenever something good happened, a bunch of folks would come to visit, which always made her feel a bit uneasy.
"Are these okay?" Ines asked.
Erica patted her shoulder, knowing what she was worried about, and explained, "Don't worry. Most of the visitors are students of Phillip, or your father's old comrades. I barely let in people we're not familiar with. And these gifts aren't anything too fancy. I've returned all the expensive ones, so don't worry too much."
"Okay, good." Ines said.
The storage room was already full, so Erica had to get people to clear it out, giving away the stuff they didn't need to friends or donating it directly. Not long after, a maid came out carrying a cardboard box.
"Ma'am, this seems to be a gift Mr. Galeana sent before. Phillip told us to put it in the storage room. What should we do with it now?" The maid asked.
Ines, who had been sitting on the couch, looked up sharply at the mention of this. She remembered that there had indeed been a time when her father had sent many gifts over, but their relationship hadn't been patched up at the time and she had refused them on the spot. This must have been one of the gifts sent before she had noticed.
Seeing Ines' reaction, Erica waved her hand, "Just leave it here for now, you can go do other things."
Once the maid had left, Ines immediately opened the box with shaky hands. It wasn't anything expensive, just a bunch of baby clothes. They were very small, and probably for newborns. The material was extremely soft with diverse designs, and there were both boys and girls styles. They were clearly carefully chosen from a store.
Ines held the clothes tightly, and her eyes were welling up with tears. Her father had done all this for her. She didn't even know what kind of feelings he must have had when he was choosing these clothes.
Seeing this, Erica was also moved. She bent down and gently hugged Ines' shoulders, "Izzy, don't be like this. Your father wouldn't want you to keep being upset over him."
"Am I really such an ungrateful daughter that I treated my own father so coldly when he was terminally ill?" Ines asked.
"Silly girl, don't think like that. You didn't mean to, and you didn't know a lot of things. You can't blame yourself for the decisions you made in that situation." Rita said.
Rita, who had been helping out in the kitchen, heard from a maid that Ines was crying and came out. She saw Ines holding onto Erica's arm, and as her aunt, she was genuinely happy to see her getting along so well with her mother-in-law.
She patted Ines on the shoulder and said, "Izzy, you're a mother of two now, yet you’re so emotional. Aren't you afraid Ivy and Ollie will laugh at you?"
