Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 387

Ines nodded. "He is back home, but he’s just playing with the kids, so I came down."

"Oh yeah, his food is still being kept warm in the kitchen, could you help me bring it up?" Rita added.

"No need to bother, he's probably not that hungry. As soon as he got home, he started playing with the kids. When he's hungry, he'll come down and eat."

Even though Ines spoke naturally, Rita could sense that her mood seemed a bit down. From her gloomy look, it was quite clear what was going on. "Are you jealous of the kids?"

"No such thing." Ines would not admit it.

Upon hearing this, Erica firmly stated, "It must be. Has Izzy ever come down and kept us old folks company at this time before? Today is the first time."

"Mom, you guys are just strict. Whenever I come down, you guys just tell me to shoo back upstairs."

"We only shoo you upstairs during the day. At night, we never see you. You're busy preparing Ethan's dinner at this time. How could you have time to chat with us?" Erica teased.

"Mom, I think you guys are really bored, always making fun of me."

Rita lightly tapped Ines' forehead. "That's because you give us the opportunity to tease you."

Ines snorted and stood up. "I won't talk to you guys anymore. I'm going to the kitchen to prepare dinner."

"See, even though she's angry, she still loves Ethan deeply. I figured it out a long time ago."

Even after Ines walked away, she could still hear Erica's laughter. In a place where no one was around, she couldn't help but stamp her foot in annoyance. The initiative was now completely in Ethan's hands, just as she had anticipated.

The food at home was always kept warm. Ines checked and found that the dishes were a bit cold, so she put them in the microwave to heat them up. Just as she put one plate in, a large hand wrapped around her waist. The familiar scent hit her, and the corners of Ines' mouth curved upward. She leaned contentedly against his warm chest.

After a while, Ethan asked, “Izzy, I heard them say you are jealous of the kids?"

Ines pushed Ethan away and took the dish out of the microwave, saying unhappily, "Don't listen to their nonsense, there is no such thing."

"Really? Then why did you sneak downstairs without telling me?" Ethan didn't believe her explanation. He was now very clear about her character.

"Ethan, why are you so talkative? Do you want to eat or not? If you don't, I'll throw it away."

Hmph, looks like she was angry.

Ethan chuckled, "Of course I do. My Izzy heated this, so it must be delicious."

Ethan smiled at Ines. "Why are you jealous of two infants who have not yet been weaned? They are your children. They are so young and can't talk yet, so of course, I have to pay more attention to them. Only by interacting with them more can I know if they are healthy. As a father, I can't take care of them during the day. Naturally, I have to talk to them more when I come back at night. Otherwise, it would be too unreasonable."

Ines pressed her lips together and didn't speak. She also felt that she was really weird sometimes.

Ethan continued to confess, "I'm actually worried about them too. The connection between a child and its mother is very strong. If something happens to the child, you, as the mother, would be the most upset."

Only after personally verifying that the children were okay, could he completely relax. This morning, he saw on the news that a four-year-old boy suddenly died in kindergarten, which made him worry a lot, and he couldn't help but think more.

Ines grumbled, "I don't want to talk to you." No matter what she said or did, she was always wrong, and he was always right.

Seeing Ines' expression, Ethan couldn't help but laugh. He rubbed her face and said, "You are becoming cuter and cuter."

After dinner, the two hit the hay. The kids were totally oblivious to their mom's jealousy, sleeping soundly and even letting out faint snores.

Ines walked over, bent down, and planted a gentle kiss on their little faces. "You two are like little piglets, sleeping so sweetly."

Maybe it was the anticipation, or perhaps just getting used to this kind of lifestyle, but Ines felt as if the following week whizzed by. Before she knew it, her postpartum recovery was over, and the full-month celebration for the kids was here.

Upon hearing the news, Jeffery and Joy also hauled ass from A City to join in.
