Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 396

"Well, you're still pretty sober."

Ethan stayed in bed, only settling down to sleep when Ines had coaxed Ivy to sleep. The two had just fallen asleep when Oliver woke up. Ethan woke up before Ines and handed Oliver over to her. Only after seeing the little ones fall asleep again did he rest.

Ines looked at Ethan with a faint smile. He was such a good father. Even though he was drunk, he was still concerned about their kids.

The next day, when Ines woke up, Ethan had already gone to work, and the kids were not in their cribs. Obviously, they had been taken out by others.

When she went downstairs, she ran into Rita. "Rita, where are the kids?"

"Your grandpa and Beasley are playing with them in the yard. You're really a heavy sleeper. It's already 11 a.m." Rita was unaware of Ethan's drinking the night before and thought Ines had overslept, which she thought was not so good.

"Rita, I was kept up by quite a drunk Ethan last night, talking all the time, and then I was kept awake by the two kids. I didn't get a good night's sleep."

Rita curiously asked, "Did Ethan get drunk?"

Ines replied helplessly, "Yes, he must have drunk quite a lot. He talked a lot and acted like a child. I've never seen him like this before. It's really annoying."

Even though Ines' words were full of complaints, her expression didn't show it. Rita saw right through her. "I think you are actually enjoying it. You're the only one who gets to see him like this. Other women don't even have the chance."

"But I was really tired last night."

"Well, enough about that, come and have breakfast. We have booked a flight for 3 pm. We are leaving today," Rita said.

"That's so sudden. You guys just stayed for a few days and are leaving already."

"We've been here for more than a few days, it's been a month. This is the longest time Zander and I have ever stayed in someone else's house in decades."

"This is not someone else's house. This is my home. Just treat it as your own, and you won’t feel uncomfortable. Everyone here is very open-minded. They like having lots of people around. Besides, the kids and yourself have saved me a lot of trouble by being here."

"Don't say that. Don't think I don't know how frustrated you've been this past month. I've been watching you every day. I bet you're annoyed and probably want us to leave."

Ines laughed. "That's not true. It's just a little complaint. I wouldn't want you to leave. I've been looking forward to having you guys here."

"I know you, don't try to brush me off."

Ines put her arm around Rita's, again trying to persuade her to stay. "Rita, can't you stay with me for a few more days? I'm not working now, so we can go out and have some fun."

"You're still young and have plenty of time to play. Joy is pregnant now, and Jeffery is busy with work. No one is there to take care of her when she comes back. We are all worried. Even though there are many people looking after the two kids, we still can't bear to leave them."

Hearing Rita say this, Ines was a bit upset but couldn't say anything. She just felt a bit down.

Rita comforted her. "Don't worry. When you and Ethan get married, we'll come back and stay with you for a while."

"Well, that's all I can hope for."

After lunch, Rita informed everyone else that she was leaving. The Meyer family tried hard to make her stay, but when they heard that Joy was pregnant, they didn't insist anymore.

Ashley offered to drive them. Ines was getting a bit bored at home and thought this would be a good opportunity to get out.
