Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 418

Ethan's heart sank slightly, his chin tenderly brushed against the top of her head, and his arm tightened around her waist. "Izzy, I know I've upset you with my recent behavior," he confessed, "but please believe me, you're the only one in my heart. I've never loved anyone as deeply as I love you, not even Leila. Do you understand?"

Memories of his years with Leila faded in comparison to his two short years with Ines. He thought he’d have never forgotten her, and the memories, but that had quietly changed.

Now, when he closed his eyes to reminisce, all he could see were moments with Ines. From their first meeting to the present, every memory was crystal clear. As for Leila, the memories of their time together were fading. Since marrying Ines, the times he reminisced about Leila were pitifully few.

Ines knew they weren't the type to express their feelings through words. Their actions spoke volumes more than any words ever could.

Tears uncontrollably streamed down Ines' cheeks. She remembered asking Ethan whether he still loved Leila. Back then, his response wasn't as firm as it was now. His clear confession left her overwhelmed with emotions, and she was unable to control her tears.

Ines’ tears made Ethan panic; he hurriedly wiped away her tears. "Izzy, don't cry."

The more he spoke, the more Ines cried. Eventually, she buried her face in his shoulder, and her sobs were muffled against his shirt.

Soon, Ethan could feel a wet patch forming on his shoulder. He wasn't sure what had set off her tears. Just like any other man, despite his sharp business acumen, he wasn't an expert in deciphering women's emotions. "Izzy, I'm not saying this to appease you," Ethan confessed, "these are my true feelings."

Ines wiped her tears and straightened up. "I know."

"I thought you were angry?"

Ines shook her head. “I’m not angry.” She just felt a little heartbroken.

Ethan broke into a smile, his hands cradling Ines' face. "Izzy, I'll give you time, but don't make me wait too long, okay? I want to take you and the kids home soon."

"Okay, but there's something I need to tell you." Ines nodded, tugging Ethan to his feet.

After some thought, Ines decided to reveal the truth about Leila's death to Ethan. It was a part of his past, and he had the right to know.

After turning on the light, Ines took off her necklace and handed it solemnly to Ethan. "This is something Ashley gave me. It's a recording device. You can take it and listen."
