As Ethan arrived, so did the traffic police, preparing to blockade the scene. Without hesitation, he burst through the crowd. One of the officers was about to stop him when another intervened, "That's Mr. Meyer, his wife is in there."
The accident scene was a horrific sight, shocking anyone who dared to look. Ethan's gaze swept over the wreckage, almost immediately spotting Ines and Watson's car. The vehicle was unrecognizable, the front end was caved in and the rear was shattered, barely resembling its original form.
Watson, being an experienced veteran, had clearly managed to steer the car into the guardrail at the last moment, sparing them the worst of the impact. As a result, the black car that had been chasing them collided directly with a large truck while they only suffered from the tail-end of the collision.
At this moment, Ethan couldn't care less about the details of the accident. His sole focus was on finding Ines. She had just been pulled out of the car by an officer. Her body was covered in blood and her hair was disheveled and falling over her face. Ethan froze, staring at the jarringly red blood covering Ines. His blood felt as if it had turned to ice, and his soul seemed to have fled, leaving him unable to move.
"Both people in the Audi are breathing, but they seem seriously injured. They need immediate medical attention, or it could get complicated," someone said.
Ethan snapped back to reality at the comment. Without waiting for an ambulance, he picked up Ines and rushed out, yelling at Lucas over his shoulder, "Check on Watson."
Ethan put Ines in his car and without wasting time, drove straight to the hospital.
When Lucas brought Watson over, Ethan's car was already gone, so he had to borrow a nearby police car. Ethan was not aware of how many red lights he'd run on his way, calling the hospital while driving. By the time they arrived, all the preparations had been made. Ethan placed Ines on a stretcher, and the medical team immediately wheeled her away. As they moved, Ethan held Ines' hand, his voice hoarse and broken. "Hold on, Ines, you have to be okay."
Upon entering the hospital, Ethan grabbed the doctor's hand as if it was his last lifeline. "Dr. Thompson, you have to save my wife." The doctor nodded, trying to pry Ethan's hand away, but found that his grip was too tight. The doctor had to raise his voice to reassure him. "Don't worry, Mr. Meyer. We'll do everything we can, but we need to act now."
Ethan gave Ines one last look before reluctantly letting go.
The doors to the emergency room closed, and Ethan watched the operating light, hating everything about hospitals. The waiting was unbearable, especially when the outcome was uncertain. Every second felt like torture. Ethan felt as if he had been sitting for a long time, but the light in the operating room remained on.
Jacob and his family arrived first. Ashley immediately noticed the blood on Ethan's white shirt. As it was dried and dark, she broke down in tears and rushed over to hug Ethan.
Ethan was like a statue, rigid and unresponsive. His eyes were fixed on the door of the operating room, ignoring anyone who tried to talk to him.
Lauren was also visibly upset, clutching her husband Jacob's hand tightly. Jacob, after understanding the situation, called in some experts and went aside to notify the Galeana family.
Erica and Phillip arrived a bit later. Seeing Ethan's stunned expression and the blood stains on his clothes, Erica's heart tightened. She sat next to Ethan, taking his trembling hand. "Ethan, it will be okay. Izzy is the kindest soul I know. She's been through so much, God will surely show her mercy."
Ethan remained silent, maintaining the same position. Ashley whispered to Erica, "Erica, Ethan has been like this for over an hour. He won't respond to anyone."
