Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 486

Silvia had had enough. She let out a harsh laugh, clenched her fists and gritted her teeth, ready to lay bare the unbearable truth she had been denying. “You should know better than to trust the news he puts out. And you should’ve guessed that his affair with my mother wasn’t as simple as it seemed. He took advantage of my mother, and thus, I was born. My mother saw me as a disgrace and never showed me a shred of maternal love. He is the root of all my pain. Do you think I have no reason to hate him or seek revenge?”

There was silence on the other end of the call. Maria was shocked by Silvia’s revelations. She had thought that Russel had a fling resulting in Silvia’s existence, but the reality was far more abominable. That damned man, she wondered how much more trouble he had caused that she wasn’t aware of. She had been blind to fall for such a despicable man, to chase him despite his true nature. It was a cruel joke.

Hearing no response from Maria, Silvia smirked. Her features were twisted in mockery. “Didn’t catch all that? Want me to repeat it?”

“No need. I heard you loud and clear,” Maria replied weakly.

“Then respond. Is my confession sincere enough for you?”

Maria felt a lump in her throat. She laughed until tears streamed down her face. Her shoulders were shaking with the force of her laughter. “What goes around, comes around. He never saw this coming. His prized daughter is plotting against him all this time. He ignored my love for him, choosing to pursue his old flame and commit such heinous acts. This is retribution. He deserves it.”

Maria’s mind was filled with images of their past, their meeting, their marriage. She had thought she found a reliable man, only to realize she had pushed herself into a pit of despair. But all was not lost. He would pay for his actions, for her suffering.

Silvia, growing impatient, asked, “Are you done laughing? We have more important matters to discuss.”

Wiping away her tears, Maria felt a sudden surge of strength. “Go on, what do you want me to do?”

“What kind of evidence are you holding that he’s desperate enough to want you dead?” Silvia asked bluntly.

Maria had been tight-lipped about this particular matter, keeping it close to her chest, forcing Silvia to cooperate. Maria scoffed. “He’s guilty of accepting bribes and causing someone’s death. I have sufficient evidence.”

Silvia didn’t doubt this for a second. A malicious grin spread across her face. “That’s quite damning.”

“If it weren’t, I wouldn’t be in this mess,” Maria replied bitterly. If she hadn’t uncovered the truth, she would still be a fool, being deceived over and over.
