Harlan’s chest tightened the more innocent Elaine looked. She was just nineteen. Happiness for girls her age could be as simple as candy, chocolate. a pretty dress, or expensive skincare
But for Elaine Her happiness was leaving this family. To her, leaving the Years family was happiness itself.
Harlan couldn’t explain why, but the thought struck a chord deep wahan him. He wondered. Why would I feel this ache for Elaine of all people? After all, haven’t I always despised her?
What about the rest of the brothers? If they see Elaine like this, will they feel the same pang of guilt and sorrow?
Harlan couldn’t bear to look at Elaine any longer. Nor did be ask her anything else. Without a word, he turned and left, almost stumbling in his hurry

Meanwhile, Mavis came across a trending topic online and found herself stunned. She hadn’t expected her former client to be making headlines again. She thought Elaine had all but disappeared from the public eye.
“Flaise, is it true you were out shopping with a man?” Mavis asked, her curiosity getting the better of her
Elaine’s past feelings for Finley, the eldest son of the powerful Scout family, were no secret. To outsiders, her ability to murry into such a prominer family as an adopted daughter of the Yeats family was sheer luck.
But Elaine had faced an uphill battle. Her rival, Bianca, was a high–achieving graduate, a top–tier celebrity with countless accolades and a flawless TTLELE
People online constantly questioned why the Scout family would choose someone like Elaine over Bianca
Only Mavis knew the truth–Elaine wasn’t just the Yeats family’s adopted daughter, she was their biological ont
“Yeah it’s true. Elaine replied calmly.
Hearing this, Mavis was puzzled. She continued. “You don’t like Finley anymore? Or are you playing hard to get, trying to make him jealous? Because, honestly, there’s been no reaction from him so far
Finley, as the quintessential male lead of this story, was almost too perfect. His good looks, intelligence, and influence meant Elaine chasing after him seemed natural to outsiders.
But Elaine wasn’t so sure how she truly felt about Finley anymore. Maybe it had all started when she first returned to the Yeats family. She’d been rejected by her brothers and her mother, and Finley had been the only one who showed her a shred of kindness.
That fleeting warmth was what convinced Elaine to go through with the engagement her family had arranged to hold onto the hope that marrying Finley might bring her happiness. She had longed to hit in, to belong
Reality, however, had shattered that illusion. Finley’s heart was never hers. It belonged to Bianca, and eventually, they would be together.
Elaine? She was just a pawn, an afterthought
Over the years. Elaine had clung to Finley, but his responses had always been cold, indifferent. Whenever she clashed with Bianca. Finley was always the first to defend her rival.
“Tve moved on.” Elaine said plainly. “Tve let go of my brothers, my mother–my family. He’s just one man. Why would I hold onto him? Mavis, when I chose to step back from the entertainment industry, everything changed. I’m not the same Elaine Yeats anymore.
“By the way, the man I was with? You’ve probably heard of him–Kingsley. He’s my fiance. We haven’t officially announced the engagement yet, but he’s already making plans, and picking a date. Soon, we’ll be married. And, of course, I’ll invite you to the wedding. You’ve always looked out for
“Wait–what‘ Kingsley?” Mavis nearly dropped her phone. “You’re joking, right? Kingsley Morgan‘ The head of Boynton’s wealthiest family!”
Elaine massaged her temples and replied. “Yes, that’s the one.”

It almost felt surreal. This was the kind of bold move that deserved applause. After all, Kingsley » wealth And Finley couldn’t even compare.

Mavis murmured. Damn! How can they treat her that way? Elaine is their real sister! That Bianca, no matter ho
how I look at her, seems fake, overly manipulating her public persona
One day, everyone will see through the facade. And when that day comes, the Yeats family will regret everything they’ve done to Blaine
