Chapter 73
Revenge—the word hit hard, heavy with meaning, settling in his chest like a weight. But in cut moment, it felt less like a burden and more like a key—a key that unlocked a flood of memories, memories that came rushing back all at once. He remembered how unfairly he had treated Elaine
Because manca liked Finley, he never stopped to thank. He just assumed, since Bianca had feelings for him and Finley reciprocated, it was only natural for him to step in. He genuinely thought Flaise shouldn’t cause trouble over a man, especially if it upset him and his mother.
He had preswired Elaine, subtly forcing her to step aside for Bianca, to
to give up Finley
“It’s just one man, night?”
But he never considered that, from the very beginning, Elaine had already given up so much too much to even count.
At first, Elaine hadn’t obeyed his plan. She had argued, protested, calling him unfair. And in return, he labeled her as cold, selfish. He said it was no wonder no one in the family liked her, that she was always competing with Bianca, always trying to prove herself superior
“Elaine, Bianca is so kind. Why are you so narrow–minded?”
“Elaine, you will never be as good as Bianca.
Those words, those accusations, had echoed in Shown’s mind like thunder, each one striking harder than the last
Then, when Kingsley announced his intention to marry Elaine, to make her his fiancée, Shawn had arrogantly thought that Flaine was using Kingsley’s name to suppress Bunca.
Looking back, he realized just how self–centered he had been.
Now, the memory of Elaine’s cold, detached face, and the harsh words she had said at the charity event, kept playing in his mind.
“This is the last time 11 areat you like my sister. From now on, we’re strangers. Our bond is broken.”
The pain in Shawn’s temples had surged. His head had throbbed, as if it might split open
Then, a realization had hit him–maybe she never intended to hurt Bianca at all. Maybe, she had just grown tired of them. Tired of the family. Tired of him. She had los fanth in them, and that was why she had wanted to leave, to escape the people who had once been her family.
That thought had made his heart race with panic.
But there was nothing more he could do. He had to comfort himself with the idea that maybe things weren’t as bad as he feared.
When faced with Tucker’s accusations, Shawn could only shout, “Tucker, why didn’t you say any of this sooner.
“Why didn’t I say it soon?
Tucker had given a hollow laugh, weak and empty.
“Because, Shawn, I’m just like you. We’re brothers, so we’re the same. Self–righteous. But what’s the point of saying any of this now? Elaine no longer cares about us. From now on, we can only regret and repent in a world without Elaine. This is your punishment. And mine.”
Tucker had murmured these words, then suddenly laughed again, bitterly.
“Elaine, if she knew how much we regretted, she’d probably find it disgusting, right? Honestly, we don’t deserve any of it. But maybe she doesn’t care at all. After all, in this family, she had long since given up on all of us”
For days, Tucker had been locked in his room, wrestling with a single question: Elaine was our sister. But what did we ever do for her? Ever since her return, had she ever spent a single happy day in this house!
Now, thinking about it, Tucker had felt disgusted with himself, How could they treat their own sister this way?
“If we her own family, were so cruel to her.
r, how could we expect anyone else to be kind?”
The realization had hit him hard–Elaine had been surrounded by hostility, even from her own blood. Always compared to Blanca. Always the
outsider.
Tucker could no longer excuse Bianca for all the wrongs done to Elaine, but he knew he could never go back to blindly favoring Bianca again. Shawn had felt the same sting of guilt when he heard Tucker’s words. Yes, Elaine was their sister

Hut now, it was too late
Tucker had said nothing more. He hadn’t looked at Shawn again, simply turned and left.
Shawn had remained alone in the garden, not knowing how lo
long he had stood there under the trees.
He had hoped–no, he desperately hoped–that there was still a chance for things to be repaired.
As for Harlan, he had been staying at the hospital. Since Elaine decided to return everything to the Years family, Harlan had thrown himself into an unprecedented amount of surgeries, almost as if to numb himself.
The busy pace of his life had worked wonders. Soon, Harlan had been back to his old self–daring, confident, unbothered. The wing of Elaine’s words no longer affected him.
But when he had returned home a month later, he had found that things had changed.
Since the charity event, when Elaine had overshadowed Bianca, Bianca had been withdrawn, melancholic. She often locked herself in her room, and Tracy, worried about her daughter, had called Harlan back from the hospital..
Harlan had been the only one who could cheer Bianca up. With him around, Bianca would be happy again.
Hefore, Harlan had been lost and quiet for a while, and Tracy had grown concerned about his mental state, So, she had used Bianca as an excuse to bring Harlan back
When she had seen him
return to his old self, Tracy had been overjoyed.
“Harlan, you’re finally back. You don’t know, Bianca’s been waiting for you all day, just to see you.”
