Chapter 0142
When she was a child learning to walk, her tumbles were much worse than this.
But he hadn’t expected her to call early the next morning, claiming she had a concussion and needed to be hospitalized.
Hospital.
In Diana’s hospital room, Dylan opened the door to find her lying on the bed, phone in hand, speaking in a weak, pitiful tone. “I really didn’t want to bother you this early, but I was afraid I might never get the chance…”
Whoever was on the other end of the line was in for quite the show, with Diana playing the victim and pouring on the charm, her voice sugary sweet.
After what felt like an eternity, she finally hung up.
Dylan dragged a chair over and sat down in front of her. “Who?”
Diana knew exactly what he was asking, but she played coy. “Who are you talking about?”
His gaze sharpened. “Not going to tell me?”
“Honestly, you’re being so vague. How am I supposed to answer?” Diana replied, feigning
innocence.
“You’re not asking who I was just on the phone with, are you? Come on, bro, words aren’t on a pay–per–use plan. Couldn’t you say a bit more, especially when it comes to Suzy? You could try actually expressing your feelings–like telling her you regret the divorce, or that you want to win her back…”
“Regret?” Dylan scoffed as if she’d told him a joke. “Not once.”

Almost the moment he finished speaking, the door opened again.
The two siblings turned to see Suzy standing in the doorway, their reactions mixed.
Diana was the first to recover. “Suzy, you got here so quickly! I didn’t think you’d still care, but here you are right after my call.”
Suzy replied calmly, “I was just passing by.”
She gestured to the bandage on Diana’s head. “What happened?”
Diana glanced at Dylan and then back at Suzy. “Ran into a door! Suzy, have you had breakfast? If not, you could go with my brother. He hasn’t eaten either, and you could bring me back something.”
