“Say that again?” Suzy was convinced she must have misheard.

“As soon as you agree to be my girlfriend, I’ll lift the hypnosis on Diana,” Hawk stated, matter–of–fact. “And I’ll guarantee I won’t lay a finger on her again.”

Suzy began, but Hawk cut her off. “No need to answer right away. I’ll give you three days to think it over.” 

He didn’t seem to be joking. Yet the two of them barely knew each other how could he propose something so absurd? 

It was indeed absurd. 

To Suzy, his request was utterly laughable. 

“A new trick?” she sneered. “So, what’s the goal? You want me to fall in love with you, only to ditch me later? That way, you get to torment me physically and emotionally? Whose idea was this pathetic scheme? Yours? Or the benefactor pulling your strings?”

“Brother…” Hawk’s gaze darkened. “You really feel nothing romantic toward him?” 

“If you had a sister, would you fall in love with her?” Suzy shot back coldly. “Stop wasting time. Go ahead with whatever you plan to do.” 

Hawk held her gaze for a moment, silent, then turned and walked away. As he reached the door, he left her with one final statement. “I take orders from no one. 

Even lying in bed, Suzy couldn’t shake Hawk’s last words from her mind, “I take orders from no one.” 

So, did this mean he wasn’t in league with them?
