If it had been anyone else, Dylan would’ve already lost his temper. But this was Suzy’s aunt. Not only could he not show any dissatisfaction, but he also had to force a smile as he tried to make amends. 

“I didn’t realize your relationship with Suzy before, which is why I never visited-” 

Once again, before he could finish, Charlotte cut him off. “Even if you had known, I doubt it would have made a difference. After all, you never truly treated Suzy as your wife in the first place!” 

Suzy was speechless. 

She had just snapped at Dylan herself earlier, so she couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for him now, having to endure her aunt’s sharp tongue as well. His emotional scars must be stacking up. 

Dylan opened his mouth to try again, but Charlotte didn’t give him the chance. Grabbing Suzy by the arm, she said curtly, “Let’s go.” 

Without so much as a goodbye, the two women climbed into the car and drove off, leaving Dylan standing alone on the mountaintop. 

Inside the car, Charlotte turned to Suzy. “Are you thinking about going back to him?” 

“How could I?” Suzy scoffed, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “Why does everyone keep asking me that?” 

Allen, Riley, Hawk, and now even her aunt had all asked the same question. 

“Do I really seem like the type to look back?” 

Charlotte chuckled. “Not usually, but Dylan might be an exception. He’s the only man you’ve ever loved, after all.” 

“Well, that was in the past,” Suzy replied, her expression indifferent. “Who hasn’t misjudged someone in their youth?” 

As she spoke, curiosity flickered in her eyes. “Aunt, you’ve been single all these years. Have you never fallen in love with anyone?” 

Through the rearview mirror, Suzy noticed a subtle shift in Charlotte’s expression. That look–it was the kind someone with a story to tell would have. 

But all Charlotte said was, “Men aren’t worth much. A woman is better off standing on her own.” 

Suzy wasn’t one to pry into other people’s personal lives. Since her aunt didn’t want to talk about it, she let the subject drop.
