Extending her hand again, she demanded, “My phone!” 

The man’chuckled lightly. “It’s in my pocket, but my arms seem to be acting up. It hurts to move them. If you want it, you’ll have to get it yourself.” 

Her gaze darkened as she warned, “Are you sure about that?” 

“Never mind!” he said quickly, suddenly less bold. 

Truth be told, her icy glare unnerved him a little. “My arms feel fine now.” 

Fishing the phone from his pocket, he handed it over. “It’s late already. Don’t trouble anyone else. Come on, let me give you a ride.” 

Suzy stared at him for a moment before holding out her hand. “Keys.” 

She wasn’t about to entrust her life to a man she knew nothing about. 

The car sped through the night, and before long, they arrived at the Harlow estate. 

As soon as the car stopped, Suzy got out without a word, her steps quick and deliberate. The man followed, unwilling to let her go so easily. 

At the front door, as Suzy prepared to close it behind her, he propped a hand against the frame. “I’m feeling a little thirsty. Miss Frost, would you be kind enough to offer me a cup of tea?” 

“Tea at night isn’t great for sleep,” she replied flatly, shoving him back and shutting the 

door in his face.

Pushing open her bedroom door, Suzy froze at the sight of the man sitting comfortably on her bed. Without a second thought, she grabbed the nearest vase and hurled it at him. 

The man deftly caught the vase mid–air, turning it over in his hands as if inspecting a piece of art. “Is this a thank–you gift for bringing you home? Honestly, I’d prefer it if you just gifted yourself to me.” 

“No wonder you like wearing a mask,” Suzy shot back, her tone dripping with disdain.” With shamelessness like yours, it makes sense you wouldn’t dare show your face.” 

Having delivered her retort, she turned and walked further into the house. Over time, she had come to understand a thing or two about this man’s antics. 

No matter how brazen he acted, he never overstayed his welcome. There was no point wasting energy arguing with him–he’d leave on his own when the time came. 

Settling onto the sofa, Suzy pulled out her phone to continue her research. 

Lisa’s expression before she died had gnawed at her. Something about it didn’t sit right.
