On the other end, Dylan stared at the disconnected call and let out a bitter laugh. “You’re losing all patience with me, aren’t you?” 

All he’d wanted was to explain why he was marrying Anne, but she hadn’t even let him finish a single sentence. 

Then again, even if he had managed to explain, would she have believed him?

Letting out a resigned sigh, he called for Desmond. “Any leads on the person backing Anne? 

Ever since Anne had revealed her supposed leverage, Dylan had begun digging into the mysterious figure behind her. 

“Nothing so far,” Desmond replied, puzzled. “Since we picked her up from prison, she’s barely left the villa. The only exception was that night she went to Bayview Heights and nothing since. 

“Surveillance also shows no one visiting her at the villa. Honestly, if it weren’t for the complexity of her last scheme, I’d have believed she made up this so–called backer.” 

Dylan’s expression darkened slightly at the thought. “What about Charlotte? Any updates. there?” 

He still found it hard to believe that her and Anne’s recent appearances were mere coincidence. 

Desmond shook his head. “The investigation shows no connection between her and Anne. She’s Suzy’s aunt and seems to genuinely care for her. It’s more likely Anne was 

monitoring your movements and used Charlotte’s call to the reporters as an opportunity to stir the pot. 

Dylan remained silent for a long moment before finally speaking again. “Even so, keep a close watch on her. I don’t want any loose ends. ” 

Still, he hoped he was just overthinking it.
