Sensing someone behind her, Suzy quickly folded the letter and tucked it away. Before she could fully conceal it, a hand reached over and snatched it from her grasp. 

Hawk unfolded the letter and read it with ease, a shameless grin spreading across his face. “I have to admit, your aunt had much better taste than you do.” 

Suzy snatched the letter back, folded it neatly, and slid it into her pocket without a word. She turned on her heel, heading for the stairs. 

But Hawk wasn’t about to let her off so easily. He followed close behind. “Junior, the stars align in three days. It’s a perfect day. Why don’t we schedule our wedding for then?” 

Suzy abruptly stopped, her voice ice–cold. “Watch your mouth, or you might bite your tongue.” 

“What’s this? You don’t want to admit it?” Hawk smirked, leaning closer. “Don’t forget, you admitted in your office that you’d be my girlfriend. Now even your aunt’s final wish is for us to be together. You wouldn’t want to ignore her dying wish, would you? She’d never rest in peace.” 

Suzy turned to glare at him, unblinking. 

Hawk’s grin widened. “Let me guess you’re realizing I’m much better looking than Dylan?” 

Suzy gave him a smile of her own, though it didn’t reach her eyes. “You showed up at just the right moment. That letter wouldn’t happen to be something you planted, would it?” 

Hawk didn’t so much as flinch. “Why don’t you have the handwriting analyzed?” 

“It better not be,” Suzy said flatly, turning to head upstairs again. 

“What kind of wedding do you prefer?” Hawk called after her. “Traditional or modern?” 

Get lost!” 

“You’d really defy your aunt’s final wish?” 

Suzy didn’t respond, her footsteps steady and unhurried as she ignored him. 

“If you don’t want to get married right away, we could start with an engagement-

A vase came hurtling down the stairs, smashing into pieces at Hawk’s feet, cutting him off

Not eager to be hit by whatever she might throw next, Hawk wisely decided to keep his mouth shut and stepped out of range.

After all, there was no chance for Suzy and Dylan to reconcile, so Hawk wasn’t in a hurry. 

Back in her room, Suzy couldn’t shake Hawk’s words, “Would you really defy your aunt’s final wish?” 

By all logic, she shouldn’t. But the mere thought of being with Hawk made her skin crawl. 

For one, she felt nothing for him. But more importantly, his face, one identical to Claude’s, was impossible to ignore. 

She had seen Claude as a brother her whole life. Staring at that face, she couldn’t summon any feelings beyond familial affection. 

The more she thought about it, the more frustrated she became. With a sigh, Suzy turned on her computer, deciding to focus on something else. 

The campaign against the Wright Corporation had gone on long enough. It was time to put 

an end to it. 

When she’d planned everything, she had taken the precaution of informing Grace in advance. Without prior notice, the shock might have been too much for the elderly woman to bear. At her age, Suzy couldn’t risk it. 

She would never forget the words Grace had said to her, “Even if it was all a misunderstanding, it’s fine. He does owe you that much.” 

How could Suzy not care for someone like her?
