Suzy had never enjoyed the glitz and forced camaraderie of business events, but as the CEO of Harlow Corporation, these gatherings were now unavoidable. 

Take tonight, for example. One of Harlow’s long–term partners had hosted a banquet and personally delivered the invitation to her. No matter how reluctant she felt, some social obligations simply couldn’t be ignored. 

What she hadn’t expected was to run into Dylan. 

Even after retreating to the balcony to avoid the crowd, he still managed to find her–and worse, he felt the need to interfere in her business. 

Without sparing him so much as a glance, Suzy ignored him completely. She tilted her head back, finished the wine in her glass, and turned to leave. 

“Yara isn’t as simple as she seems,” Dylan said, his low voice cutting through the night as she walked away. 

“Oh, and you think you’re any less complicated?” Suzy snapped, unable to hold back any longer. She turned to him, her patience wearing thin. “Everyone in the world’s a villain except you, 

huh?” 

“I’m not saying she’s bad,” Dylan clarified, his tone calm but firm. “I just find her arrival…. too coincidental. The day you went up the mountain to visit your aunt’s grave, she just happened to appear. On top of that, her story is oddly similar to yours. You haven’t questioned any of it?” 

Dylan’s words might have sounded reasonable but Suzy’s attention landed on one key detail. “You followed me?” 

“I wasn’t following you,” he said, a faint frustration slipping into his voice. “I was worried. that if you were in danger, I wouldn’t be there in time to help.” 

“I don’t need your concern,” Suzy shot back coldly. “Whatever happens to me is my own business. Who I choose to be close to is my choice. If you’re so keen on worrying about someone, maybe focus on your grandmother and sister instead.

“Exactly!” came a voice from the shadows, smooth and deliberate. 

Hawk emerged from the corner with his usual air of nonchalance, strolling over to stand by Suzy’s side. 

His tone was light, but the mockery in his words was unmistakable. “My Junior’s told you. more times than I can count–no matter what you do, she’s not getting back together with you. Yet you keep clinging to her like some shadow she can’t escape.” 

He smirked and continued, “And it’s not just that. You’ve got the nerve to interfere with

Suzy had no interest in dealing with either of them. 

Rolling her eyes, she left without a word, not even bothering to look back.

When Suzy returned to Hillside Villa and pushed open the door, she saw Yara sitting by the 

entrance. 

“Suzy…” Yara’s soft voice greeted her. 

Suzy frowned. “What are you doing sitting here?” 

Yara looked up, her expression reminiscent of a puppy waiting for its owner to come home, “I was waiting for you.”
