It wasn’t an earthquake but something Charlotte did. As she approached the villa’s main entrance, she had discreetly activated the hidden mechanism for the basement. 

Charlotte had prepared a destructive device in the basement, designed to obliterate everything inside if she found herself in a desperate situation. She wasn’t about to let Suzy’s mother, whom she had imprisoned for twenty years, escape unscathed.

“She really does think of everything,” Riley growled through clenched teeth. “Do you think she and Mark were in on this together from the start?” 

Whether they were or not, Suzy no longer cared. All that mattered now was escaping and ensuring her mother could be laid to rest. 

But with nothing but their bare hands and no tools, getting out of the collapsing basement was almost impossible. 

The tremors continued to intensify. Cracks snaked across the walls, and chunks of the ceiling began to fall. It was only a matter of time before the entire space caved in. 

“Boss, watch out!” Riley shouted, spotting a massive slab of stone breaking loose directly above Suzy. 

She tried to rush forward to push her out of the way, but before she could take another step, debris struck her shoulder, dislocating it completely. Pain shot through her, leaving her gasping and unable to help Suzy.
