Dylan paused briefly on the other end of the line before speaking. “Helena really is dead.” 

“Dead?” Suzy repeated, momentarily stunned. Had she been wrong all along? 

If Helena was truly dead, then it ruled her out as the mysterious woman. But if it wasn’t Helena, then who could it be? The woman’s identity now seemed even more elusive. 

Dylan’s voice carried a hint of contemplation. “I’ve already sent someone to investigate Evangeline’s siblings. Given her high–ranking position, the woman’s motive for wanting her dead could only be one of two things: either power or a personal vendetta. 

“But the fact that she can mobilize royal shadow guards suggests she holds an extraordinary status herself. This might be a thread we can unravel.” 

“Agreed,” Suzy replied. “That’s what I’ve been thinking too. Evangeline’s siblings are highly suspicious. Plus, her behavior is strange she seems to know who the woman is but refuses to say anything. 

“I used to think it might be Helena and that Evangeline was protecting her for the sake of the royal family’s reputation. But now that we’ve confirmed Helena’s death, there’s only one explanation left: the woman must be someone Evangeline is personally close to, someone she deeply cares about.” 

“I’ll have Desmond investigate further,” Dylan assured her. 

Just as their call ended, the door to Suzy’s room swung open. 

Evangeline stood there, composed as ever. “Miss Frost, you’re free to leave.” 

Suzy blinked, taken aback. She had only been detained for a single night, and now they were letting her go? 

Evangeline was the highest authority in Xandria–Suzy had assumed she wouldn’t let the matter rest so easily. Yet here she was, being released without further consequence. 

But Suzy wasn’t ready to leave just yet. Fixing her gaze on Evangeline, she asked directly, You know who’s behind this. Why won’t you say it? 

“You go to such lengths to protect her, yet she’s determined to see you dead. Is it really worth it?” 

“Miss Frost, are you reluctant to leave?” Evangeline asked, her gaze calm yet inscrutable. ” By all rights, I shouldn’t be letting you go after your attempted murder. But out of respect for General Wright, I’d rather not escalate this matter. After all, our countries are allies. 

“However, if you insist on staying, I’ll have no choice but to keep you here and hand you over to your nation. Let them provide me with an explanation.”

She left Evangeline’s estate and returned to the hotel.
