Serena’s words lingered in Suzy’s mind, carving themselves deep: “That man looked quite a bit like you…”

She had seen him before–the man Serena described was the same one she’d encountered that night at Evangeline’s estate.
If what Serena said was true, that the man had lived here since childhood, then perhaps he wasn’t who Suzy thought he might be.
The more she thought about it, the more tangled her thoughts became, like an unsolvable knot.
As she was trying to make sense of it all, the room was suddenly plunged into darkness.
Suzy assumed it was a power outage and reached for her phone to use its flashlight, but before she could, she sensed someone’s presence approaching her.
Her first instinct was that it must be another of that woman’s lackeys.
Quickly orienting herself to the sound of the footsteps, she prepared to attack, but a voice interrupted her.
“You already know too much. If you value your life, you should leave now and go back to where you came from.”
Suzy was speechless.
It wasn’t an assassin?
Suzy let out a soft laugh. “You sound more like a friend than an enemy. Since you’re so concerned about me, why not drop the mystery and tell me who you are?”
“I may not be your enemy, but I’m not your friend either,” the voice replied coldly. “I’m here to ensure that innocent people don’t get hurt because of you. There are things better left unknown. If you continue down this path, those around you will suffer consequences they don’t deserve.”

With those words, Suzy heard the faint sound of the person turning and walking away.
Realizing he was about to leave, Suzy narrowed her eyes but kept her composure. Just as he opened the door, she moved swiftly, leaping off the bed and slamming her hand down on his shoulder.
“Leaving without even showing your face? That’s a bit rude, don’t you think?”
As she spoke, Suzy flicked the light switch near the door. The room, which had been shrouded in darkness, was instantly bathed in bright light. She thought she’d finally get a good look at him, but his reflexes were just as quick.
Dodging her grasp with ease, the man slipped through the door and bolted down the hallway.
Suzy wasn’t about to let him get away. She chased after him, her strides long and purposeful, cornering him at the far end of the corridor where there was nowhere left to
run.
He stood there, his back to her, unmoving.
