Even Desmond was beginning to worry. “Sir, this George fellow seems dead set on dying. No matter how much we push him, he won’t talk. At this rate, he might not make it much longer.” 

“Come here,” Dylan ordered. He pulled Desmond close and whispered a few instructions into his ear. 

Desmond’s eyes lit up immediately. “Brilliant as always, sir! I should have thought of that! I’ll handle it right away!” 

Following Dylan’s orders, Desmond quickly found a woman with a similar build to Charlotte. They crafted a lifelike mask for her, allowing her to impersonate Charlotte. Late at night, she appeared before George, pretending to rescue him. 

“George…” 

The woman called out softly to the barely conscious man. After several attempts, George slowly opened his eyes. 

His dull, unfocused gaze suddenly sharpened as he took in her appearance. “Master?” 

Before she could respond, the light in his eyes dimmed again. “No… she’s long gone. I must be dreaming.” 

The woman cupped his face gently. “This isn’t a dream. I’m alive. Look at me closely.” 

George studied her intently, the pain wracking his body convincing him it wasn’t a dream. His emotions surged, and he exclaimed, “Master! It’s really you! You’re alive!” 

The woman smiled softly and nodded. “Yes, I’m alive. I’ve been hiding all this time, but I never thought you’d have to suffer so much because of me. George, I’m so sorry–it’s my fault. 

“No, no, don’t say that!” George quickly reassured her. “Master, I did all of this willingly. Besides, I swore an oath to you. Even if I were to die, I’d never reveal that secret. Master, I kept my promise!” 

“Mm–hmm!” The woman nodded gratefully. “You’ve done so well. Over the years, I’ve only become more indebted to you.” 

“Master, please don’t say things like that. I told you, I did it willingly!” George glanced around nervously. “Master, you need to leave now. If they find you here, it’ll be a disaster!”

“We’ll leave together!” the woman insisted as she began untying him. “I came here tonight specifically to rescue you! You’ve done so much for me; I can’t let you suffer anymore. Even if it costs me my life, I’ll get you out of here!”

“If you’re not leaving, neither am I!” The woman gripped George’s hand tightly. “After all these years, I’ve realized that you’re the only one who truly cares about me!”
