Dylan glanced at Desmond and waved him off. “Go ahead.”
“On it!” Desmond replied cheerfully, walking out with a spring in his step. He couldn’t help but marvel at his own flawless performance.
Not a single crack in his act! At this rate, he might have a future in the entertainment industry.
With his impeccable acting, he could probably win Best Actor someday.
At first, Suzy didn’t realize she’d been duped by the duo. It was only when Dylan’s lingering glance at Desmond gave them away that it clicked.
So, he ignored her calls on purpose.
Fine!
Suzy decided not to waste her energy confronting them. She had bigger problems to deal with—namely, her father’s sudden decision to marry the fake Charlotte.
“Dylan, your so-called employee...” Suzy began, her tone sharp with frustration.
“I thought she was honest and decent, someone I could actually be grateful for. Turns out, she’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”
Dylan raised an eyebrow, clearly confused. “What happened?”
Suzy’s laugh was short and humorless. “She wants to marry my father!”
“Marry your father?” Dylan’s surprise was genuine. “Did she say that?”
“My father came to me out of nowhere, saying he wanted to marry her. So, I thought I’d ask her to help dissuade him from the idea. And what did she do? She said she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him!”
Suzy threw her hands up in exasperation.
“Your oh-so-loyal subordinate isn’t just ambitious—she’s downright shameless. I should’ve known her generosity wasn’t without reason. Turns out, she’s aiming to become my stepmother!”
Initially, Suzy had opposed the idea out of fairness.
After all, her father’s feelings were for the real Charlotte, not this imposter.
It seemed unfair for the girl to be burdened with misplaced affections.
But now that Suzy knew the girl’s true intentions, it felt like she’d been played from the start.
