Thinking about it only made Grace feel more guilty, and her tears fell even harder.
Suzy, who couldn’t bear seeing Grace cry, quickly tried to console her.
"Grandma, please don’t cry! I’m fine, really. Look, I’ve even gained weight these past few days!"
"You’re in here, and you’re telling me you’re fine?" Grace said, pouting in distress. "Suzy, I know you’re just saying that to stop me from worrying, but I’m not buying it.
"You silly child. Why are you still thinking about my feelings at a time like this? Who is it that’s done this to my precious girl?"
The word precious made Suzy’s heart ache with both warmth and unease.
"Grandma, I really am okay. Whoever’s trying to harm me isn’t capable of succeeding. I’m only staying here because I want to see who’s behind all this.
“Otherwise, with my bad temper, do you think anyone could keep me locked up?"
Though Suzy’s words were confident, Grace’s worry remained.
"Suzy, I know you don’t want to see that rascal, but this is different. We don’t know what kind of power the person trying to frame you has. You can’t handle this all on your own.
"Let that rascal help you. Even if he’s got a bad leg, he’s still capable of doing something!"
Grace turned sharply to Dylan, her tone commanding. "Listen, you rascal! I don’t care what it takes—you will help Suzy through this. If you don’t, I won’t acknowledge you as my grandson anymore!"
Dylan, eager to prove himself, responded immediately, "Grandma, don’t worry. I’ll make sure to help Suzy. I promise I’ll find whoever’s behind this and bring them to justice!"
Grace huffed. "Don’t just talk. You’d better deliver. I’ll give you one week. By then, I expect Suzy to walk out of here with her name cleared!"
"Understood!"
Suzy was speechless.
Were these two rehearsing at home before coming here? One followed the other so seamlessly that she couldn’t even get a word in edgewise.
Suzy pressed her lips together, finally managing to interject. "Grandma…"
But Grace, as if knowing exactly what Suzy was about to say and determined not to hear it cut her off.
"Suzy, I was in such a hurry to see you that I forgot to take my blood pressure medication. I need to head back right away.
