With a sigh, Suzy turned to face Grace. "Grandma, whoever is behind this is relentless. They clearly want me dead. I don’t want to drag you all into this."
Grace stepped closer, gently taking Suzy’s hand in hers and holding it firmly.
"Silly child, we’re family. No matter what happens, we should face it together. If we’re in danger, do you think distancing yourself from us is the right thing to do?"
"Grandma, it’s not the same," Suzy said, her voice heavy.
"I’ve already told Dylan the same thing. The reason I’ve kept you all at arm’s length is because I have no idea what we’re up against.
"I don’t even know who’s behind all this, let alone how powerful they are. I’ve never felt so helpless before. If I can’t even ensure my own safety, how can I protect all of you?"
"We can protect ourselves," Grace said firmly, refusing to let go of Suzy’s hand.
"And I’ll say it again—Dylan may have a limp, but he’s not useless. You’re his woman, and protecting you is his responsibility!
"Stop overthinking everything and remember one thing—no matter what happens, you’re not alone. You have us."
Hearing Grace’s words only made Suzy feel worse.
"Grandma, you’re not young anymore. I don’t want to disrupt the peaceful life you should be enjoying in your golden years because of me."
"Don’t say that," Grace replied with a warm smile.
"Even without you, can anyone guarantee I’d live out my days peacefully? Life is full of uncertainties.
“No one knows what tomorrow holds, so don’t dwell on things that might never even happen."
