The man knew that if his answer didn’t satisfy Suzy, she would only become more ruthless.
Dying here wasn’t the worst outcome, but...
"Suzy, if you want me to make a deal with you, it’s not impossible. But you must promise to keep my family safe! I don’t care about my own life, but I can’t let my family get dragged into this."
For a moment, Suzy felt an unexpected respect for him.
"To prioritize your family’s safety in a moment like this… It shows you’re not as bad as you seem. Everything you’ve done must have been out of desperation."
Hearing her words, the man’s nose stung, and his eyes reddened.
"Yes… If I had a choice, I would never have done any of this!"
Clenching his fists tightly, he continued, "But she threatened my family’s lives. If I didn’t do exactly as she said, she promised to kill every single one of them.
“She’s the kind of person who always follows through. I had no choice."
"Who is this she?" Suzy pressed, her mind racing to identify the culprit.
The man locked eyes with her, his gaze sharp and unwavering.
"She’s someone who loathes you more than anything. She said you’re the person she despises the most, and because of you, she’s been forced to live a life that’s neither here nor there, caught between misery and madness."
"Stop beating around the bush. Who is it?"
The man hesitated, then said, "You haven’t promised me yet. Swear to me that no matter what, my family will remain unharmed. Only then will I tell you who she is."
"Fine," Suzy agreed without hesitation.
"If you tell me who she is, I’ll risk my life to protect your family. But you see the contradiction here—if you don’t tell me who she is, I’ll know nothing about her, and there’ll be no way for me to protect your family."
"...You’re right," the man muttered, his lips tightening.
After a moment of internal struggle, he nodded. "Only by knowing her identity can you truly protect them."
