Dylan glanced at Suzy and then smiled. “Why are you suddenly asking me this?”
In truth, he was feeling guilty, but he did his best to appear as if everything was normal.
“Before I left to look for Elliot, I was in contact with you. You had every opportunity to steal the antidote from me,” Suzy said, locking eyes with Dylan’s deep, dark gaze.
“And you had more than enough reason to do it. After all, if something happened to Elliot, you’d be the one who benefits the most.”
Dylan deliberately furrowed his brow.
“So, you’re saying I stole the antidote just to make sure Elliot couldn’t be cured, so that I could have you all to myself?”
“What do you think?” Suzy took a step closer.
“Dylan, do you dare swear on my life that you didn’t take the antidote?”
“Why do you always make me swear on your life? Don’t I have a life of my own?”
Dylan feigned irritation.
“Suzy, fine—I swear. I didn’t take the antidote, and I haven’t even seen it. If I’m lying, I’ll die before Elliot. Will that satisfy you?”
“Why not just swear the way I asked?” Suzy pressed on.
“If you really didn’t take it, why not say exactly what I told you to?”
“Believe it or not, I didn’t take it,” Dylan said flatly.
“And let’s be honest—do you really think, in my current condition, I could have stolen something from you without you noticing?”
He let out a self-deprecating chuckle and gestured to himself. “Look at me. I can’t even lift my own hand, let alone steal anything from you.”
Hearing that, Suzy’s expression shifted slightly. “You really didn’t take it?”
“I want you all to myself, sure. But I’d never do something like that,” Dylan said seriously.
“Like you said, things are dangerous right now. Even if you don’t have romantic feelings for Elliot, you wouldn’t just stand by and watch him die.
“Do you really think I’d push you into something like that?”
That was true. His possessiveness ran deep.
Had she overthought it?
