Suzy’s words hit Elliot like a bomb, exploding in his mind and leaving him completely shaken.
“Mentor, even if you don’t want to save me, you don’t have to make up something like this to lie to me.
“I already told you that I never expected you to save me in the first place. You don’t have to care about whether I live or die.”
Seeing that he didn’t believe her, Suzy met his gaze steadily.
“The most severe side effect of Scarlet Veil is infertility.
“Dylan is the only heir to his family, and his grandmother has always hoped that we would have a child together. So, when I detoxed him, I didn’t take any precautions.
“I wanted to give him a child.”
Elliot stared at her, searching her face for any sign that she was lying.
But there was nothing.
“So… you’re really choosing him?” he asked, his voice hollow.
Suzy nodded. “Yes.
“He was my first love, and he’s the only man I will ever love.
“I have never, and will never, feel anything for anyone else.”
At this point, there was nothing left for Elliot to say.
“Leave me alone. I need some time to myself.”
Since he seemed relatively stable, Suzy did as he asked and stepped out of the room.
Of course, she didn’t go far.
She lingered just outside, worried he might do something reckless.
Then, she heard the sound of things being smashed.
She knew her words had been brutal, but it was the only way to truly shatter any lingering illusions he had about her.
Elliot needed to move on and live his own life instead of wasting it on a woman who would never return his feelings.
The sounds of destruction continued, but Suzy didn’t interfere.
He needed to let it all out.
Maybe once he did, he’d finally accept the truth.
After about twenty minutes, the room finally fell silent.
Then, the door swung open.
