Elliot’s meaning couldn’t have been clearer.
He was severing his ties with Suzy as her apprentice.
She hadn’t expected him to go this far.
It was obvious how furious he was, utterly convinced that they had set him up together.
Even though Diana already told him the truth, he refused to believe a single word of it.
If this had happened in the past, Suzy would have tried to stop him.
But now…
That mysterious F organization was still lurking in the shadows, with no leads or clues in sight.
If Elliot stayed by her side, he would only continue being a target.
So…
"Fine," Suzy said, her expression unreadable as she looked straight at him.
"Since you refuse to believe me no matter what, then as you wish—our relationship as mentor and apprentice ends here."
Elliot expected her to try and explain, to fight back, to convince him otherwise.
But she didn’t.
Not only did she say nothing, but she actually agreed with his decision.
His fists clenched at his sides.
He looked at her, eyes burning with suppressed anger. "So, you already planned for this, hadn’t you?"
"That’s right. I’ve been planning this for a long time," Suzy replied, following his words without hesitation.
"To be honest, I’ve been wanting to cut ties with you for a while now. You’ve been nothing but a burden to me.
"If you didn’t have feelings for me, I wouldn’t have minded you sticking around. But you’re like an annoying shadow I just can’t shake, and I’m tired of it."
Elliot stiffened.
The pain in his eyes was unmistakable, bleeding into every corner of his expression. "A burden?"
So that was how she had seen him all along?
He always knew he didn’t mean as much to her as Dylan did.
But at the very least, he thought he held some significance in her life.
