Chapter 102
Hailey was tucking the twins to bed while Cole stayed on the balcony, attending to a business call. He made his
way back to the living room when he was done, then saw Debbie sitting on the couch with her attention on her
phone.
He approached her.
“Oh hi.” She smiled at him, taking her eyes off her phone.
“Hi. You’ve got a few minutes to spare?” He said, taking a seat on the couch opposite Debbie.
“Sure!” She answered, putting her phone aside.
Cole tucked his phone in his pocket too, fiddling with his fingers, wondering how he was going to start the conversation.
“You Okay?” Debbie asked when she saw him acting nervous.
“Yes! I just want to thank you for everything you’ve done for my family, especially before I came into the picture.”
“Really, you and Hailes need to stop thanking me. Hailey is my best friend and I would do anything for her. The twins are the most adorable little boys I have ever come across. What’s there not to love about them?”
“You’ve really done so much for my family. It may be no big deal for you but I promise you that it means everything to me. Thank you.”
Debbie shrugged. “You are welcome and yeah, I would do everything all over again.”
Cole nodded. “I also want to ask something.”
“Sure!” Debbie encouraged, seeing that he was being insanely nervous.
“I am blessed to know Hailey and I cannot imagine spending the rest of my life without her by my side. I already invited her for a getaway this weekend.” Cole said in a low tone, playfully scratching the back of his neck. “You are her best friend and I would love to ask for your blessings. I’ll be asking her to marry me and your approval means a Jot to me.”
“No.”
Cole stared into her eyes, looking shocked. Her response came out rigid and she also had a rigid look on her face that made Cole’s heart start to beat even faster.
“No?” He said out loud, hoping he heard wrong.

Chapter 102
“No,” Debbie replied sternly. There was a glass of wine on the table before her. She reached for it and took a sip.
“Why?” Cole’s voice came out shaky.
“Hailey cried a lot because of you and I’m never going to forgive you for that.”
Cole ran his fingers through his hair. “I’m really sorry about that, Debbie. I regret it so much and no matter how pained we all are about it, I can’t go back to change the past. That is why I am willing to do everything in my power to make things right. I promise to spend the rest of my days making it up to her.”
“How do I know you are being sincere?”
“I’m a man of my word.” He stared at her in the most honest way possible, hoping she could see the sincerity in his eyes.”
“There’s no way to confirm that.”
“Please, Debbie. Just trust me. You are free to do whatever you want to me if I ever go back on my word.”
Debbie shook her head.
Cole sighed, not knowing what to say again.
“You got the ring already?” Cole wasn’t expecting that question from her but he nodded.
Debbie took another sip of her wine. “That’s sad. Because there is no way my friend would have anything to do with you.”
“I thought you cared about her happiness?”
“I do. And that includes protecting her from getting hurt.”
“I’m not a bad guy.”
“Still not convinced.”
Cole said nothing.
“What are you going to do if she says No to you?”
Cole was quiet for a few seconds. “I’ve not thought about that but I was being hopeful and even if she says No, I won’t stop trying. Life without Hailey is meaningless.”
“On one condition.” Debbie placed the almost empty glass of wine on the table before her.
“Name it.”

“You are going to put it down in writing that I’ve got all the rights to jail you if you ever hurt my sister.”
“Done!” Cole answered immediately.
Debbie chuckled. “You can’t wait to walk down the aisle with her, can you?”
Cole blushed.
“It took you so long though. I’ve always wondered when you are going to pop the question.”
Cole felt at ease, trying to hide his blush. “I’ve always wanted to. Just waiting for the right time.”
“I had to tease you first to confirm your intentions. Thank you for discussing this with me. It makes me feel so important. I’m rooting for you and Hailey and I wish you both all the happiness in the world.”
Cole smiled. “Thank you. Your approval means so much to me.”

“Do you know where her mom was buried? I would love to visit her to ask for her blessings.”
TWO DAYS LATER
“Babe, My Love,” Cole whispered into Hailey’s ear.
She moaned, burying her face deeper into his shoulders.
“We are here?”
“Already?” She mumbled with her eyes closed.
“Yes, my love.”
“How is that possible? We just left the airport.”
Cole chuckled. “Yes, babe. It’s been forty minutes.”
Hailey slowly opened her eyes. She turned to her left and looked out of the window, coming face to face with a gorgeous apartment.
Cole got out of the car, he went to the other side, opened the door, and stretched out his hand to her while the driver took their boxes in.
“This looks so beautiful,” Hailes mumbled as she took in her environment. Even though it was dark, the artificial lights in the surroundings did not fail to show the beauty of the place.

Chapter 102
Cole smiled, leaned closer, and kissed the side of her forehead. “I’m glad you like it, my love.”
“You must be so hungry!”
She smiled, nodding.
With his hand on the small of her back, Cole led her in.
Hardly had Hailey stepped in when she stopped in her tracks and faced Cole. A small smile was plastered against her lips. “This smells so good! Is anyone going to be staying with us?”
“No. Just the housekeeper who stays in the staff quarters.”
“I can smell my favorite. She made them?”
Cole smiled, shaking his head. “I hired a chef.”
“Do you mind us eating first before you give me a tour? Yeah, I know I ate on the plane but I feel so hungry.” She pouted, making Cole smile even more.
“It’s fine, Babe. Anything for you and our little one.”
Hailey happily connected her hand with his and Cole led her to the dining room.
“Okay? What’s going on?” She smiled sheepishly when they approached the dining table. It was a romantic table setting for two. The table was filled with her favorite foods, fried rice, Chicken, mouthwatering desserts, and appetizers, orange juice. She could also see a fruit wine, then flowers, as well as candles.
