“Whose vehicle is that?” Moore frowned from where he was seated in the backseat as his driver drove into his
mansion.
“That looks like Mr Summer’s car.” The driver responded, pulling up in front of the house.
Moore mumbled some incoherent words. He was really not in the mood. He was sad that the dinner already planned with his son’s family wouldn’t hold anymore and most importantly, he couldn’t believe he almost lost his daughter-in-law and grandchild today.
The driver got down from the car and went to the back passenger seat to open the door for Moore. Moore instantly
came face to face with Eric.
Moore stared at Eric in disbelief while the driver excused them. “What’s wrong?” Moore said in shock as he took in all of Eric’s appearance. His beard was full, Hair looked so unkempt. He looked lean and really pale.
“What do you mean?” Eric’s deep voice came through.
“I don’t mean to sound rude but you used to look better than this. Are you sick? Are you dying?” The worry didn’t go unnoticed on Moore’s face and in his voice.
“I’m fine. Or so I think. Life lately has been filled with regrets so I think I deserve everything that is coming to me.”
“And you’ve been avoiding me lately.”
“I’ve just been so busy, Eric.”
“You don’t need to pretend with me, I understand if you want to distance yourself from me, I don’t have friends anymore. No one wants to associate themselves with me since the news about Connie and Vanessa being wanted
broke out.”
“That’s not it, Eric. I just don’t know what to say to you If we eventually hang out.”
“Again, I’ve got my son’s interest to protect. Though he has nothing against me hanging out with you but it just doesn’t sit well with me.”
“I understand. I don’t blame you. I had a good life and I ruined it all.”
“I wish I could turn back the hands of time and make the right decisions.”
Moore shook his head, staring at Eric with nothing but pity.
“You were just never content with what you had. You looked down on your wife so much that you entered the trap of another woman who didn’t have your interest at heart.”

Eric’s eyes were filled with tears. “I honestly had no idea how Connie tamed me. I’m really sorry about everything.”
“I know you are sorry but your apologies cannot change anything. It’s so sad that you have to live with the consequences of your actions. Look at you. Alone and lonely.”
Eric looked away in embarrassment.
“I had no idea that Connie and Vanessa were planning to escape. The police came for them, they were nowhere to be found so they arrested me. I was only released when they got a hold of Vanessa. I got home and that was when I
realized Connie stole money from the safe and some of my investment documents were missing.”
“Have you seen Vanessa since then?”
Eric shook his head.
“Did you know that Connie has been arrested?”
Eric stared in shock. “How? Where did they find her?”
Moore heaved a deep sigh. “She attacked Hailey earlier today. Hailey is at the hospital but Connie has been
arrested.
Eric looked shocked. “Is….Hailey..going to be okay?”
“Yeah yeah! She’s out of danger. She will be fine.”
“I don’t understand why Connie will attack her instead of turning herself to the police.”
“She was there to threaten Hailey to withdraw the case so she can successfully flee from the country.”
“Leaving Vanessa behind? What sort of a mother is she?”
“It’s not my place to say but I think you should talk to them both. They both made some confessions to Hailey and I think you might want to know.”
“What confessions?”
“You should consider speaking to them. It’s not my place to tell.”
“Is it bad?”
“I can’t say but you deserve to know the truth.”

Despite the fact that there were lots of people and her eyes were aching, Vanessa managed to stay still and patiently searched through the crowd until her eyes met with the person she was looking for. She picked up a cup of hot water and walked down the aisle to the table of the familiar face, ignoring the mumbles and noises of other
inmates.
And there she was, Connie, her mother, in all of her glory, seated on the bench, staring at the food before her in utter disgust. Rice and mild sauce. It was clear that the dogs in her mansion weren’t entitled to what she was being
served here.
Connie was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t notice when Vanessa approached her.
Vanessa splashed the hot water on her mother, not thinking twice about her actions.
Connie screamed, jumping up from where she was seated. She could feel her head and face burning. She had heard that there were lots of bullies in prison but she couldn’t believe that this was happening to her in less than 24 hours of her being there.
Connie took a glance at the face that poured the hot substance on her body. She came face to face with the individual and her anger tripled at the sight of who that was.
“How f**g dare you?!” Connie raised her hand to hit her on her face but Vanessa stopped her halfway by holding her hand still.
“Let go of my hand you b**h!” Connie said at the top of her voice, trying to stay sane and not think about the painful burn she was feeling on her body. At this point, they got lots of people staring at them already.
Vanessa wasn’t having it but Connie succeeded in pulling her hand away from her daughter.
“How dare you do this to me?” Connie took a glance at her hand and saw her skin turning red already.
“That’s honestly not enough for the pain and hurt you’ve caused me. I wish I could lay my hands on a pistol so I can shoot your brains out and send you where you belong.”
“Where do I belong? You are nothing but an ingrate! I took you out of poverty, gave you a good life and this is what I get in return? Total humiliation?”
“Shut the f**k up! What the heck did you do for me?” Vanessa said at the top of her voice. At this point, the hall was silent and all attention was on them.
“Oh please, don’t you dare make me look s**d when you are the selfish one! Your biological Dad is a poor mechanic but because I didn’t want you to end up on the streets, homeless, and begging for food, I had to act smart by seducing Eric. He fell for me we slept together and I convinced him that he was your father.”
Vanessa froze. Her heart stopped beating for a couple of minutes.
