“No….no…” Vanessa whispered, shaking her head. Her eyes were clouded with tears. “You are a f**g liar. You are making this up! You are saying all of these to mess with my head. That is what you’ve done all your life. Fill my head with hateful words and force me to hate those around me. You are nothing but a disgusting role model!”
“I have no reason to lie to you or impress you. I thought no one was going to know about this but that f**g Hailey made me open my mouth so I might as well tell you.”

Hot tears rolled down Vanessa’s cheek as she stared at Connie with nothing but hate and disgust. “How could you? How do you even sleep at night?”
“Oh please! You all are the ungrateful ones. You didn’t hear me when I said your bio dad was poor? I’m sure he would be grateful that I relieved him from so much burden of caring for you and me.”
“So he has no idea that I exist?” Vanessa sobbed, not believing she had been living a false life all along.

With so much anger in her eyes, Vanessa approached Connie, pushed her to the floor with all her might, then climbed on her and started hitting her.
A few inmates rushed towards them, trying to stop them from fighting as Connie was trying to dethrone her

Eric was brought out of his thoughts when the sound of the gate came through. His eyes dashed to the gate and he saw a prison officer opening the gate and guiding Vanessa in.
“You have just a few minutes.” Then he turned to Eric. “She’s under punishment so won’t be able to talk to visitors
for long.”
Eric nodded. “Thank you.”
Vanessa was quiet. She approached the chair opposite Eric and humbly took a seat before him, hardly looking into
his face. The duo separated by a small table.
“Who did that to you? The officers?” Eric asked, staring intently at her. There were bruises on Vanessa’s cheek and a big band-aid on the side of her forehead.
Vanessa and Connie were in jail already because they both disobeyed the court order by disappearing. They hadn’t even started serving jail time for all the pain they’d caused Hailey so Eric was so shocked to see his supposed daughter with so much injury.
Vanessa moved her lips to say something but she burst into tears instantly.
Eric wasn’t too moved about her reaction so he just sat there and watched her cry like a baby until she calmed
down.
“…’m sorry.” She sniffled, wiping tears off the corner of her eyes. Still not looking at Eric..
“What for exactly? For all the pain you caused, for escaping with my money? Or you are trying to shoot your shot thinking I’m gonna bail you out of here?”
For the first time she came in, Vanessa looked into Eric’s eyes. “This apology comes from the depth of my heart. I’m so sorry for all the pain I caused. You aren’t even my bio Dad and you treated me better than you treated your
daughter.”

Vanessa shook her head. “We got into a fight and that’s why I’ve got bruises on me. I know you won’t believe me but I feel so sorry about everything.”
Eric curses softly, running his fingers through his hair.
“What did I do to you and your mother? You all totally destroyed me!!!!” Eric said at the top of his voice.
“I’m sorry. I know my apologies cannot fix anything but I’m deeply sorry. I had no idea about it until last evening. I thought she was lying but she challenged me to request a DNA test. My personal equipment is in the house, you can test it. Or I can give you strands of my hair.”
