Chapter 62 

Shocked as to how his Son stormed away from his sight, Moore took fast steps to the office glass window. From the window, he saw Cole speaking into the phone with smiles all over his face and how he excitedly jumped into his car, and drove off. 

Moore took out his phone from his pocket, scrolled through his contact list, and dialed the person on his mind. 

Hi. Uncle. The familiar cheerful voice came through. 

“What is going on with my son, Jessica?” 

What do you mean?” Jess asked, confused. “Please don’t tell me you both fought again?” 

“Cole wouldn’t say anything to me, that is why I called you. No, we didn’t argue. But he is just acting so weird.” 

“How?” Jessica asked, careful of what she was going to say. 

“He disappeared for a week. We were in the meeting all through the morning and once the meeting ended, he disappeared 

from the conference room. I trailed him to the office only for him me. He said he has an important meeting.”

“And don’t you dare manipulate me by changing topics? You are a lawyer and that can make you corny.” 

“I had thought Cole would be cranky because of all of Vanessa’s trouble lately but he doesn’t even seem bothered. Is he seeing someone? Who is the Girl? Is it Hailey?” 

“Why would you think his new behavior has to do with a girl?” 

“Eric told me Vanessa hired someone to spy on him. The detective said he saw Cole leaving the airport with Hailey and some kids.” 

“You told that to Cole?” 

“I did. But he didn’t respond. He shrugged off my conversation and ran off.” 

“I really don’t know what to say. Yeah, Cole and I are close but sometimes he can be really secretive. I guess him being happy is a good thing. And if there is an important reason behind it, I’m sure he is going to share with us soon.” 

“In the meantime, I don’t think you should be troubled about anything Vanessa says. If she’s a sane person, She won’t be stalking a grown–up person who has declared he doesn’t love her and doesn’t want anything to do with her either. Cole also has a restraining order against her, She is just an eyesore. I honestly don’t know why you are still friends with Eric.”

Cole stares in confusion as a police car pulls up in front of him. His frown got even deeper when he saw three cops get down from the car and approach him. 

He slid down the glass window of the driver seat as one of the cops was about to knock on the window. 

“How may I help you?” His voice was filled with so much confusion. He wasn’t someone to break the law and he was more than certain he was driving within the speed limit. 

“Please come down, Mr Matthis.” 

Even though Cole was very confused as to what was happening, he obeyed. He e got out of the car and came face to face with the three police officers. 

“You are under arrest for Assault and Attempted murder on one pregnant Vanessa Summers.” 

“Vanessa? What the hell?” Cole said not believing all that he was hearing. 

He shook his head. “This has to be some kind of joke.” 

“You heard us, Mr Matthis. Please come with us.” Another cop said, gesturing towards the police vehicle. 

“I am sure there is a mix–up somewhere. I’ve got an important place to be. My kids are waiting for me. I need to pick them up from school. They would get scared if they don’t see me.” Cole had no idea when his eyes got heavy with tears at the thought of this. 

He had been looking forward to the first day he was going to pick up his kids from school and today he was so close to seeing that dream turn to reality but Vanessa took away his proud father moment.
