Chapter 90
“I don’t know if I am in the best frame of mind to talk about it because I feel like a mess right now.”
“Just talk. I want to know how you feel. I’m here to listen to your rant. Regardless of if they make sense or not.” Cole brought his hand to Hailey’s face and wiped her tears away with his thumb.
“I know we’ve been careless about it. Well not really! I’ve just been carefree. But I didn’t think it would be this early.”
“I was not ready when I had the twins too but if anything, I know that having a kid comes with so much change. Those tiny humans just take up all of the space in you and consume you.”
“I know I’m probably not making sense. It’s insane how I am so anxious when it hasn’t been confirmed yet.”
“Do you want to know?” He asked and she could see the eagerness in his eyes.
“Yeah. That was meant to be the reason for our supposed lunch date today. I made an appointment with my doctor. But because of what happened, I’m not sure it is mentally safe for me to go out there.”
“But Debbie got me a home test.”
“Do you want to take that now, pending the doctor’s appointment?”
“Do you want me to?” Hailey asked him.
Cole shrugged, “If you feel comfortable with it.”
“You don’t have to go through corners. You are free to say what’s on your mind.” This time around, Hailey brought her hand to his cheek, caressing it just like how he did to her earlier.
“I don’t know how to explain exactly how I feel. I’m excited to know and I think I am nervous too, but I don’t want my desires to be a burden
to you.”
Hailey had no idea when a small smile crept to her lips. “We made love, several times, without protection, we have to take responsibility for whatever the outcome may be.”
Cole blushed. “I’m not avoiding responsibility. I just don’t want to impose something you aren’t ready for.”
“Did you have these symptoms when you were pregnant with the twins?”
Hailey shook her head. “I was totally fine. I missed my period and that prompted me to take a test. I could be sick of something else but the pregnancy signs cannot go unnoticed.”
“Let’s take the test,” Cole whispered.
Hailey nodded. “One minute.” She reached for her phone on the couch beside her and texted Debbie, asking for the tests. She was on the phone for exactly a minute exchanging words with Debbie, then she put her phone aside.
“Are you sure you are cool with this? You seem really nervous. Sorry, I made you worry.” She said to him,
“No. Don’t apologize. As you said, this is something we need to take responsibility for I’m nervous but in a good way. Wasn’t expecting it but again, I wouldn’t want it any other way. This would be my first time and I would love to experience it with you.”
Hailey nodded, his words warming her heart. She was about to say something when her phone beeped beside her. She picked it up and saw that it was a text from Debbie.

Hailey rose to her feet and made her way over to the door. She opened the door and picked up the small bag she saw by her doorstep.
Cole rose to his feet. She approached him and showed him what was in the bag. She brought out two clear blue tests. Took one out of the pack and showed him.
“You want to feel?” She saw he was still nervous but she still handed him the test.
Cole admired the object for a few seconds. “This is my first time seeing and holding something like this. How does this work?”
“I pee on the tip and wait for a few minutes for the results.”
“That’s it?”
Hailey nodded.
“How accurate?”
“Almost accurate. This is a trusted brand so we are safe.”
“So this was to what was in the box that I trashed years ago. I was such a fool.” Cole mumbled, his eyes filled with regrets.
“Thinking about the past only makes us bitter. We both regret it but you have to let go. We will make more beautiful memories.”
Cole nodded slowly.
“Let me go take them now before I get scared again.”
Hailey collected the test from him and was about to walk away when he pulled her back by her arm. “I’ll always be with you.”
She smiled, nodding. He placed a deep kiss on her forehead before she escaped.
Hailey got to the bathroom and shut the door quietly behind her. Even though she wasn’t new to the whole concept home kit, She still went
ahead to read the instructions again before taking the tests.
Once done, Hailey set the used kits on the counter, then went ahead to wash and dry her hands. She opened the door and came face to face
with Cole who had his hands tucked in his pocket.
“Come here.” He kissed the side of her forehead and pulled her into a long hug. Hailey didn’t hesitate because she knew she needed the warmth so badly. “I love you so much, babe. No matter what the tests say, I wouldn’t see you any less. I love that you can confide in me. You
are my ride or die.”
Hailes smiled against his chest, returning his hug. The duo stayed like that in silence, with Cole caressing her hair, drowning in their individual thoughts.
After what felt like forever, Haiely pulled away from the hug. “I think it’s time. Let’s go check.”
