Chasing My Pregnant Wife (Rosalie and Theodore) novel Chapter 1078

"You…"

Geoffrey took a step forward, wanting to argue with Christopher. However, the cold look on the latter's face made Geoffrey remember that he was here for something. He forced himself to swallow his words.

He headed straight for the couch and sat down. "Are you the one who's investigating my company's accounts?"

"What is this?" Christopher said carelessly. "Are you hiding something in your accounts? A surprise spot check is completely in line with the law. Do you have a problem with that?"

"You're clearly doing this on purpose! Are you taking revenge on me because I'm divorcing your sister? Your sister agreed to the divorce, and I never mistreated her. Go ask her about it if you don't believe me. You're despicable to do this!"

"Despicable?" Christopher chuckled at Geoffrey's words. "How dare you mention that word to me. I haven't settled scores with you about my sister. If she hadn't stopped me, I would have dug through your accounts a long time ago. My sister, however, is an idiot and couldn't bear to see you hit with a crisis."

Geoffrey's brows furrowed. "Then why are you investigating my company? Tell me, how much do you want?"

"Trying to bribe me?" Christopher scoffed. "Do you think I need that paltry bit of money you're offering?"

"What do you want, then? There must be a reason why you're doing this."

Investigating a company's accounts was no minor feat. Anyone who launched such an investigation would usually have received insider information or advanced notice of some sort.

This spot check came too suddenly, and Geoffrey was caught completely off-guard. He didn't have the time to destroy so many documents. The consequences were dire if they were discovered—he might even go to jail.

Christopher leaned back against his chair and stared coldly at him. "Are you close to Sydney Harper?"

The mention of Sydney's name made Geoffrey's face change. "Why mention her?"
